Prince Charles Asked About the Skin Color of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Kids, New Book Claims
In early 2021, the royal family was hit with accusations of racism after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claimed an unnamed royal made comments about their son’s skin color. Onlookers have since wondered who that royal could be. According to a new book, Harry’s father, Prince Charles, asked some questions about Archie’s “complexion.”
The Sussexes said a royal made comments about Archie’s skin color
Meghan is biracial; her mother is African-American, and her father is Caucasian. Because of her background, Meghan alleged in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021 that one royal made racially-charged comments about Archie before he was born.
There were “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” she told Oprah. Meghan also clarified that she heard about these talks through Harry and that she did not witness them.
However, the Sussexes have refused to name the royal in question. According to the book Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, the couple considered doing it, but they ultimately decided against it.
“I think it would be very damaging to them,” Meghan allegedly told Oprah.
Meanwhile, Harry said, “That conversation I’m never going to share, but at the time, it was awkward; I was a bit shocked.”
New books claims Prince Charles made some comments about Archie’s skin color
Lots of people have tried to guess who the “racist” royal could be. According to an upcoming book, Brothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan by Christopher Andersen, the royal in question could be Charles.
Andersen’s source alleged that Charles talked about Harry and Meghan’s future children on Nov. 27, 2017—the same day Harry and Meghan announced their engagement to the world.
“I wonder what the children will look like?” Charles asked his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, as reported by Page Six.
The source claimed Camilla was “somewhat taken aback,” though she gave a diplomatic answer: “Well, absolutely gorgeous, I’m certain.”
Charles reportedly lowered his voice and asked, “I mean, what do you think their children’s complexion might be?”
However, a spokesperson for Charles slammed these claims as “fiction” and “not worth further comment.”
The Sussexes could be sued if they name the ‘racist’ royal
The book did not outright claim that Charles was the person the Sussexes alluded to in the Oprah interview. Nevertheless, it is not clear if Harry and Meghan could one day choose to name the “racist” royal once and for all.
According to English solicitor Mark Stephens, the Sussexes could be sued if they really were to name the royal.
“The words may have had a racist overtone but were they intended in that way?” Stephens told Mail Plus. “Essentially what you will find is that the individual, if named, may have been able to sue for libel and breach of privacy if it was a private conversation between two individuals where there was a reasonable expectation of privacy and for the contents of the conversation not to be shared with a third party, the media.”
