Prince Charles has always wanted a more slimmed-down royal family to save on cost and modernize the royal family in the public’s eyes. Now that he’s taken on one of Prince Andrew’s most coveted royal titles, it appears that his wish is coming to fruition.

Prince Andrew, Duke of York, has been royal his entire life, and he’s always loved the access that it’s given him. However, in 2019, questions about his friendship and ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein began to arise.
At first, Prince Andrew tried to ignore the talk about his friendship with Epstein. However, when it all became too much, he gave an ill-advised interview with BBC News Night, defending his connection to the American financier, The outrage was quick, and following a discussion with Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth, Prince Andrew stepped away from royal life.
“It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going on in the many organizations and charities that I am proud to support,” he said in a statement. “Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.”
