Prince George Is ‘Growing up Fast’ as William and Kate Prepare Him to Be King
Prince George’s “destiny” as a future king is kicking in. At least a little bit. Prince William and Kate Middleton are said to be “slowly preparing” 11-year-old George for the throne. That means being guided by the Prince and Princess of Wales but also being shown the “ropes” by King Charles III.
George is ‘maturing rapidly’ as his parents prepare him for the future
William and Kate are, according to royal expert Phil Dampier, preparing George for the day he’ll become king. But not without plenty of time for George to enjoy his childhood.
“Most of the time, he is enjoying the life of someone from the upper middle classes,” Dampier told The Sun’s Fabulous. He “spends a lot of time with Kate’s family, the Middletons. However, he is growing up fast, and William and Kate are slowly preparing him for his role.”
George is the oldest of William and Kate’s three children, followed by 9-year-old Princess Charlotte and 6-year-old Prince Louis.
According to the royal author, George’s confidence has been growing thanks to the big royal family events he’s attended in recent years.
“He has sometimes looked a bit stiff and formal in a suit and tie,” Dampier said. “But I thought in the recent photo to mark his 11th birthday he looked a lot more relaxed, a lot more comfortable. And he’s clearly maturing rapidly.” (Body language expert Judi James noted the same thing when analyzing George’s birthday portrait in July 2024.)
George may follow in William’s footsteps as he learns the ‘ropes’
Per the report, if George follows in William’s footsteps by going to Eton, a prestigious all-boys boarding school, it could prove valuable in preparing him for the throne. Because of the school’s close proximity to Windsor Castle, William was able to visit Queen Elizabeth II when he was a student.
“George will be able to see King Charles,” Dampier said, suggesting he could learn a lot from his grandfather. “It’s very much going to be up to his parents. And William and Kate will now be slowly upping the ante.”
“William is of course the Prince of Wales, responsible for running the Duchy of Cornwall,” he continued. “And he will be showing George the ropes in terms of how that is run.” Additionally, George “will also privately be taught about the history of the royal family and its role in society.”
William and Kate don’t want George to be ‘burdened’ by his king ‘destiny’
Dampier continued, saying George someday becoming king isn’t William and Kate’s sole focus. Rather, they want the 11-year-old and his siblings to have a relatively “normal” childhood.
“They were adamant that they wanted him and Charlotte and Louis to have as normal an upbringing as possible and not to be burdened by his future destiny.”
George will also have more freedom. “Their attitude is very much give him the tools to decide his own direction, [and] not force him into things he doesn’t want to do so that he’s weighed down with responsibility.”
