Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Most Recent Criticism Proves They’re Still Unfavored By the Media
Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex separated themselves from the royal family back in January, when they announced they’d be stepping down from their roles as senior royals. Now, Harry and Meghan are living across the pond in the United States, though Harry still wants to be involved in the royal family to a degree.
The couple has had a hard time winning over the public — but it’s hard to deny the hypocrisy in their most recent criticism.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle broke away from the royal family earlier this year
Back in January, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked fans when they announced that they’d be stepping back from their royal roles. The couple had received relentless criticism since tying the knot back in 2018, and Meghan had a hard time building a relationship with the public as a result.
Though people were surprised, it’s hard to say nobody saw it coming. Meghan and Harry initially wanted to continue to serve the queen while gaining financial independence, but it proved to be legally not possible, so they opted to leave the family entirely. The two moved to North America in January and relocated to California two months later. They have not returned to the U.K. since their final royal engagement in March.
Harry and Meghan’s Remembrance Day criticism proves they’re still out of favor with the media
Harry and Meghan have continued to do charitable work since relocating to the U.S., but it appears the rift between the Sussexes and their family has not yet subsided. The royal family has always celebrated Remembrance Day by honoring those who have served, and this year, the Palace reportedly denied Harry’s request to lay a wreath on his behalf.
To pay their respects, Harry and Meghan visited a cemetery in California, where they honored the fallen. The two released photos, but the images were met with backlash from the media. Insider reported that Piers Morgan called the images “a distasteful PR stunt.” There were reports that Harry and Meghan were using the images to get back at the royal family.
Though the royals celebrated the day as they always do, Queen Elizabeth also released an image of her honoring the fallen privately — yet there was no word of criticism for her actions.
The media’s decision to make a mountain out of Harry and Meghan’s photos, while seemingly ignoring that the queen did the same, is somewhat of a hypocritical move. The queen is greatly admired in the U.K. and around the world, and it’s easy to deduce that her paying respects in the same way as her grandson didn’t warrant anywhere near the same criticism.
Harry and Meghan likely won’t return to the U.K. any time soon
Harry and Meghan recently purchased a home in Montecito, California, and it appears they’re there for the long haul. The two reportedly do not have plans to return to the U.K. to spend Christmas with Harry’s family; it’s tradition to spend Christmas as Sandringham with the queen, though Harry and Meghan did not attend last year, either. It’s possible that the couple will return for a major event such as Trouping the Colour next spring, but time will tell if the rift between the family continues to deepen.
