Prince Harry Continues Princess Diana’s Unfinished Work
Prince Harry continues the work begun by his mother, Princess Diana, by supporting the Angola Trust. The trust was brought to light when the late Princess of Wales walked through an active minefield in Angola in 1997. Harry continues to shine a light on this important cause and recently made an appearance on behalf of the global organization in New York City.
Prince Harry picked up the mantle of Princess Diana’s work with the HALO Trust
Prince Harry is currently in New York City to attend a series of humanitarian events. One of these is the HALO Trust, a group that helps clear landmines and war debris.
The organization gained international attention when Princess Diana walked through an active landmine in Angola. She called for a global ban against landmines in 1997. Months later, she died in a car accident in Paris, France.
Page Six reports Harry spoke of his mother’s unfinished work at an event for The HALO Trust. “As you know, the HALO Trust’s work in Angola meant a great deal to my mother,” Harry said.
“Carrying on her legacy is a responsibility that I take incredibly seriously. I think we all know how much she’d want us to finish this particular job,” Harry concluded.
Prince Harry spoke of his children while discussing the landmine issue
During his speech for the HALO Trust, Prince Harry spoke of his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He revealed that his late mother, Princess Diana, would be “horrified” knowing there were still so many areas infested with land mines.
“Much has changed in my life and the world since 2019 when I first visited,” Harry shared. “In those five years, I’ve become a father for the second time. And while you don’t need children to have a stake in the future of our planet, I do know that my mother would have been horrified that anyone’s children or grandchildren would live in a world still infested with mines.”
Harry concluded, “Where she [Diana] first walked in 1997, I found a bustling, vibrant town. I met hundreds of schoolchildren who had no idea that the ground they stood on was once riddled with landmines. It is moments like these that I am personally grateful for our collective efforts. Grateful for the resolve and determination to see this through.”
Prince Harry walked the same path as Princess Diana in 2019
Prince Harry took a similar journey across an Angola landmine field in 2019, walking the same path as Princess Diana. He continued the brave work of his late mother to rid the world of these destructive, hidden devices and honor the global movement she started in 1997.
Diana bravely walked across a live landmine field to bring awareness to the issue of anti-personal landmines. She was clad in a face and chest protector.
Over 20 years later, Prince Harry, wearing an outfit similar to his late mother’s, visited a HALO Trust mine site in Angola. He met with community members to learn how de-mining efforts are benefiting residents, reported People Magazine. Due to her efforts, the field Harry walked five years prior was cleared of the devices that dotted the landscape when his mother visited.
During his New York trip, Prince Harry attended several events, including to the Diana Award and those for African Parks and Travalyst.
