Prince Harry Dealt Another Major Blow as Important Staff Member Steps Down
It seems that no matter how hard Prince Harry and Meghan Markle try, they always seem to be followed by negative press. The two have been building a new life for themselves, and they’ve accomplished a number of things — but have also run into a number of problems — since leaving the royal family in 2020.
Meghan has been focusing on launching her lifestyle brand while Harry remains zoned in on his Invictus Games Foundation. But recently, an important staff member has announced he’s leaving his role after a decade, and it comes on the heels of a controversy involving the Duke of Sussex.
The Invictus Games Foundation CEO has just announced he’s stepping down
Harry has always remained passionate about his Invictus Games since its inaugural launch in 2014. The foundation is a charity, which hosts the bi-annual Invictus Games, a competition for sick or injured service members to compete in all kinds of sporting events. The charity also raises money for service members who have gone through injuries or illness, often due to serving in the military.
The foundation’s CEO, Dominic Reid, recently announced that he’s stepping down from his role. Reid, a longtime friend of Harry’s, served in the role from the moment the foundation was born. Reid claimed it was “the right time” to step down, but others have questioned that his resignation comes shortly after Harry received a ton of negative feedback over being honored with the Pat Tillman Award at the 2024 ESPYs. It’s unclear if the two situations are related.
Harry released a statement on Reid’s departure and seemed grateful. “I am immensely grateful to my friend, Dominic, whose dedication and leadership transformed the Invictus Games from an ambitious idea to an internationally recognized movement,” NY Post reports.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had issues with staff while in the royal family
Harry and Meghan made headlines while they were in the royal family due to having so many staff members quit on them. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex found themselves in controversy as Meghan was even accused of bullying her staff at one point, and there were reports that she would send emails as early as 5am. However, others said that Meghan’s work ethic simply differed from her staff members’ because she was born and raised in the United States, which views work-life balance a bit differently.
The exact reason why Harry’s CEO stepped down remains unclear, so it’s hard to say if it has anything to do with Harry’s criticism over his award. Regardless, Harry remains focused on the Invictus Games and is set to launch the foundation’s first winter games in Vancouver in 2025.
