Why Prince Harry Felt Like He Was Thrown Under the Bus to ‘Make Prince William Look Good,’ Book Explains
Rumors of a feud between Prince Harry and Prince William were nearly constant and in a 2019 interview, Harry admitted there was truth to the brotherly rift gossip. In the new book Finding Freedom, the authors claim that Prince Harry felt thrown under the bus amid those feud reports.
Prince Harry said he and Prince William had some ‘bad days’
During a 2019 interview for the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Prince Harry was asked about his relationship with his brother and admitted they had some “bad days” and that “stuff happens.”
“Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under… inevitably, you know, stuff happens,” Prince Harry explained at the time.
He continued: “But, look, we’re brothers. We’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and, as I know, he will always be there for me.”
Prince Harry pointed to their busy personal lives as part of the reason they weren’t as close. “We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him dearly. The majority of stuff is created out of nothing,” he explained.
He added, “But as brothers, you have good days and you have bad days.”
‘Finding Freedom’ claims Prince William’s advice about Meghan Markle bothered Prince Harry
In the book Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote about how Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship soured after William offered advice to Harry about his relationship with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
In a book excerpt published by The Times, sources explained the details of the brothers’ conversation. “Don’t feel you need to rush this,” an insider said Prince William told Harry. “Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.”
“Harry was pissed off,” another source shared. “Pissed off that his brother would ask such a thing.”
“Some felt it was an overreaction,” they added. “But then, this sums them up as people — William, the calm and rational one, and Harry, who can’t help but take things far too personally.”
The wording of William’s advice, the writers noted, left Prince Harry “pissed off,” even if William had been trying to be helpful.
“In those last two words, ‘this girl,’ Harry heard the tone of snobbishness that was anathema to his approach to the world,” the authors explained.
Book claims that Prince Harry was ‘upset’ about the reports of their feud
In the book Finding Freedom (via The Sun), more details about the brothers’ feud uncover Prince Harry feeling like he was thrown under the bus to make William look good as things played out publicly.
“Harry was upset that it was playing out so publicly and that so much of the information being reported was wrong,” a source told authors Scobie and Durand.
They added, “There had been moments where he felt people working with his brother had put things out there to make William look good, even if it meant throwing Harry under the bus.”
“It was a confusing time, and his head was all over the place — he didn’t know who or what to believe, and he and William weren’t talking enough either, which made everything a lot worse,” they noted.
