Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Helped a Couple in Need While Hiking in Vancouver: ‘It Feels Like a Dream’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle came to the rescue of a couple who needed a helping hand during a hike in Canada. The Sussexes came upon a couple during their New Year’s Day hike in Vancouver who were struggling to take a photo with a selfie stick and they were more than happy to help out.
Prince Harry and Markle went hiking
Prince Harry and Markle have been vacationing in Canada, taking a much-needed break from the pressures of life in the spotlight and enjoying a more relaxing change of pace.
During a hike on New Year’s Day, they came upon a couple who were trying to snap a pic with a selfie stick and offered to take their photo. The couple wasn’t initially clued into who they were talking too, however.
Asymina Kantorowicz shared the story with CTV News Vancouver Island and told People: “We’ve been doing this hike on New Year’s Day for the past two years. We took a little picnic out and we were finishing up and trying to get some selfies with the nice backdrop when a woman came up to us and asked if we wanted her to take our photo.”
She added: “We had noticed the group before, it was otherwise pretty secluded. They had two dogs with them and we wanted to pet one.”
The couple realized it was Prince Harry and Markle
Kantorowicz and her boyfriend Iliya Pavlovic had no clue that it was Prince Harry and Markle initially but noticed Markle’s friend, actress Abigail Spencer, was with them, Then they realized that Markle was the one taking their photo!
“I’m a Suits fan and I first noticed Abigail and then I looked up and realized it was Meghan taking the photo. Then I looked back at the group and realized Prince Harry was there too!,” Kantorowicz explained.
She shared with CTV: “I froze up. I actually couldn’t believe who it was. Then I looked over to the side and that’s when I realized Prince Harry was standing there. I kept looking back and forth like, ‘Is this actually happening?'”
She continued: “I couldn’t believe who it was. There was Meghan smiling at me, waiting to take the photo and it was just shock at that moment and disbelief. The only thing I could think to say to her was, ‘There’s only so much that selfie sticks can do.’”
Markle was sweet, as Kantorowicz shared: “She laughed and said something like, ‘We’ll have to take a good photo then,’ and then Harry said, ‘No pressure.’”
Kantorowic further noted: “She was just super friendly. Honestly, it was just so nice of them. We wouldn’t have seen them if they hadn’t approached us. She saw us struggling to take photos.”
It’s a memory they won’t soon forget
Now the couple has three photos taken by Markle, as Kantorowic shared that after snapping the images, “She handed me the phone and said, ‘Happy New Year!’ and we said, ‘Thanks and happy New Year.”
She added: “She seemed happy and down to earth — she was just enjoying her New Year’s hike with her husband and friend. She and Harry seemed really happy — like a happy newly married couple. I wish baby Archie had been there! I hope they’re enjoying their stay on Vancouver Island.”
The chance meeting was definitely memorable, as Kantorowic shared with CTV that afterward she and Pavlovic “kind of turned to each other laughed and said, ‘Did that just happen?’ I still can’t believe it. It feels like a dream.”
“We really appreciated that she stopped to take a photo for us. We would not have recognized them had they not approached us,” Kantorowicz added, noting, “I was in shock and I didn’t want to make it a big deal. But then we both called our moms to tell them.”
