Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been living in the United States ever since they stepped down from their roles as senior working royals. Harry and Meghan share two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and the family has made very few trips back to the United Kingdom since leaving.
It seems like every year, there are rumors that Harry and Meghan might decide to spend Christmas with the royals. However, one expert says the reason this won’t happen in the foreseeable future is because of their children.

Harry and Meghan welcomed Prince Archie while they were still working royals. The two were married for about three months before they learned they were expecting, and they had a baby boy in May 2019. However, less than a year later, the couple stepped down from their roles. They had their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in California in 2021.
Since leaving the family, security has been an ongoing issue for the two. The British government removed their royal security and has never brought it back. But it isn’t their own safety that they’re so worried about; it’s the safety of their children.
“Harry and Meghan are not going to spend Christmas with the Spencers or the Royal Family this year,” a source close to the couple told Express. “It’s just not an option with the children at the moment due to what’s been going on with their security.” Harry’s uncle, Charles Spencer, did reportedly extend an invitation for Harry and Meghan to spend Christmas with the royals, though there has been no word on whether he’s accepted it. Apparently, he hasn’t.

Harry has returned on his own, but it doesn’t seem likely that he’ll bring his family back any time soon. He’s ventured to the UK for charity events and certain royal events to support his family, but without proper security, Harry doesn’t feel comfortable bringing the whole family over.
It looks like it doesn’t matter whether it’s King Charles or Charles Spencer who invites him; the scenario of not having enough security still stands. Harry and Meghan exited the family over difficulties with the press and the royals, and many people in the UK do not view them favorably. This has made Harry worry about what might happen if he were to bring the family back, so Meghan has not been to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
