When Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex met in Toronto in the summer of 2016, sparks immediately flew between the pair. Meghan was working on her hit TV series, Suits while the prince was in town to begin preparing for the 2017 Invictus Games.

After a whirlwind first date which was set up by a mutual friend, the duke invited the duchess to Bostwana where they did some charity work with Elephants Without Borders and slept under the stars.

The pair were able to keep their romance under wraps for time, with Meghan following Prince Harry‘s secret Instagram account and the pair meeting in the U.K. and in Toronto. In fact, the duo had a number of romantic moments before the press got wind of their relationship on Halloween 2016.

Prince Harry was immediately smitten with Meghan Markle

After being set up by a mutual friend on a blind date, Prince Harry had no idea what he was getting into. However, he was immediately dazzled by Meghan’s charm.

“Harry knew immediately that he had to “up his game” upon meeting Meghan,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight “There was this beautiful, glamorous actress, but I think it went far more than just a superficial initial connection. I was told really after those first couple of dates, he knew he had met someone very, very special, there was an immediate connection.”

From that moment on, the pair were as thick as thieves, determined to make their long-distance love work.

Megxit saved Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage

Unfortunately, almost as soon as the Sussexes’ relationship was uncovered, the abuse hurdled toward Megahn began. In November 2018, Prince Harry released an unprecedented statement urging the press and public to leave her alone.

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her,” the statement read. “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it is her life and his.”

Unfortunately, the abuse did not stop, forcing the pair to choose themselves and their marriage over the British royal family. “So much has happened for Meghan and Harry, but I’m told by a source very close to them that all of the experiences, the challenges, the obstacles of 2019 and 2020, have really made them even closer,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight.
