Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Lifestyle Will Change Now That They Are No Longer Senior Royals
In just three months, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s lives have changed drastically. The couple decided that after braving the British press and public for years, they wanted a more peaceful and private life away from the constant scrutiny. Therefore in January 2020, they announced Megxit, setting the stage to step down as senior working members of the British royal family.
Though the pair finished up their final royal engagements in early March 2020, there have only been whispers about what they will do next. The pair have spoken openly about their desire to become financially independent, and various companies have expressed their interest in working with the Sussexes, but that is going to take some time.
Currently, the duo is in self-quarantine with their young son, Archie Harrison in Los Angeles, California. However, their lifestyle is about to become drastically different.
Prince Charles is supporting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
From sheer star power alone, Prince Harry and Meghan will be able to garner major payments for their various work and projects. However, they do need to be strategic about which projects they want to take on, as to not embarrass the British royal family.
Until they can truly become finically independent, especially considering their massive security bill, Prince Charles has stepped in for financial assistance. “It is agreed that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to require effective security to protect them and their son,” their site read. And following their recent move to California, a spokeswoman for the couple stated, “Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”
“Prince Charles will still continue to offer private financial support to Meghan, Harry, and Archie,” BAZAAR.com’s Royal Editor At Large, Omid Scobie, reported on Twitter. The pair also have a $30 million net worth together, and they reportedly cashed a lucrative $1 million check back in February, for a speech and appearance at a JP Morgan event in Miami.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are interested in an $18 million mansion in Malibu
The Sussexes compound is just temporary. The pair are eyeing a 10-bedroom Malibu mansion as their permanent American residence. The mansion, called Petra Manor is a 12,249-sq ft mansion in Malibu’s Serra Retreat community.
According to estate agent Tracy Tutor, the home is a European-style mansion in a secure gated community with 10 bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It also includes a swimming pool and cabana, jacuzzi, outdoor entertainment spaces, a state-of-the-art kitchen, tennis courts, a wine cellar, a tasting room, a theatre room, and a large dance studio.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will need millions to maintain their lifestyle
From their potential new home, security, and lavish wardrobes, the Sussexes will need millions in order to keep their current lifestyle. It is thought that they will emulate their good friends, former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.
“The Obamas are a great model for how to make money and keep it classy. They could find projects that are moving and sometimes Meghan could be in them. If it’s a documentary, maybe Harry could narrate it,” said veteran Hollywood public relations strategist Howard Bragman.
The duchess has already narrated a film, Disneynature’s Elephant. More projects like this will continue that will certainly put money in their pockets. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will spend the next few months focusing on their family and continuing to do what they can, safely and privately, to support and work with their pre-existing charitable commitments while developing their future nonprofit organization,” the couple’s team said in Monday’s statement.
