Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s New York trip has them back in the spotlight after making Time’s 100 most influential people list. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex went to New York City for the weekend in a visit reminiscent of a royal tour. While a lot’s changed for the couple in recent years, one thing remains the same. Meghan and Harry still get affectionate in public.

The public displays of affection, or PDA, were there from the start. When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex began their whirlwind visit to New York City, New York, they did so holding hands.

Meghan and Harry were photographed arriving hand-in-hand at the One World Observatory on Sept. 23, 2021. They were headed inside to meet with New York City mayor Bill De Blasio and New York governor Kathy Hochul.

The PDA continued at One World Trade Center’s 9/11 memorial

After taking in the views of the city from the One World Observatory and posing for photos with De Blasio and Huchul, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the 9/11 memorial at One World Trade Center. The parents of two — Meghan and Harry welcomed a daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, in June 2021 — had a more somber moment at the waterfall pools, which are inscribed with the names of those who died as a result of the 1993 and 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.

Once again, Meghan and Harry’s PDA was on full display. The couple, who now reside in California, held hands as walked alongside one of the 9/11 memorial pools. Their PDA is a stark contrast to Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Harry’s older brother and sister-in-law avoid public displays of affection. Why? Because of the royal family’s unwritten rule about PDA. Since they’re technically on the job William and Catherine shy away from touching in public.

The royal couple later arrived at Global Citizen Live holding hands

Once again Meghan and Harry’s PDA was on full display in New York City. The couple arrived at another event, this time a 24-hour event broadcast live from Central Park, hand-in-hand. Photographers snapped images of the pair when they showed up to Global Citizen Live on Sept. 25, 2021. And, sure enough, they held hands as they made their way through the entrance.

The main event of the weekend, Meghan and Harry spoke at Global Citizen Live, which aimed to promote coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine equity. When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took the stage to say a few words, they once again engaged in some PDA.

Meghan and Harry smiled and held hands. And, at one point, Harry put had an arm around Meghan while she rested her head on his shoulder.

The couple’s now back at home in California but it seems in a post-senior royal era they will continue to do what they’ve always done, not be afraid to show their love for each other publicly.
