Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Left the Royal Family So They Could Be ‘Regular Parents’ To Archie
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still finalizing their royal exit, but so far, they seem to be enjoying a much quieter life in North America. The two left the royal family for various reasons — the most well-known one being the negative treatment of the couple in the press since they wed back in 2018. But there’s actually another reason they left, and it’s already made a huge difference in their lives: Being better parents to Archie.
Meghan and Harry announced their royal exit back in January
When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned from their six-week royal hiatus, many people thought it would be back to business as usual. But Harry and Meghan had something completely different up their sleeve: A royal exit that would be heard around the world.
Upon the couple’s return, they announced that they would “step back” as senior royals, though they hoped to continue working for Queen Elizabeth. But once the two decided they wanted complete financial independence, they realized it wasn’t feasible for them to continue working for the queen. Since then, they’ve settled into a much quieter life and recently closed down their Buckingham Palace office.
The two have been enjoying more peace in Canada
Harry and Meghan made a move halfway across the world and have ended up on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, where the two spent their holiday break. Since then, they’ve enjoyed much more peace and quiet in their lives. Meghan was spotted walking her dogs with Archie, and the two are reportedly renting out a massive, waterfront mansion tucked away from any nosy visitors.
Meghan has reportedly also been getting back into yoga; Vancouver Island is a great place to get outside, too — the couple has spent much more time outside in their new city than they did in the United Kingdom.
Harry and Meghan wanted to be ‘regular parents’ to Archie
Though the negative media definitely took a toll on Harry and Meghan’s ability to live a semi-normal life in the U.K., it isn’t the only reason they left. When their son, Archie, was born, the two opted not to give him a royal title. Now, that’s known as a sign that they had plans to leave the royal family. But a big reason they chose not to stay was so that they could give Archie a more normal life.
“It’s very much still about taking care of him and putting the family first,” a source told People in regards to the Sussex family’s exit. “Archie and Harry have such a good time together. And Meghan is a great mom. She’s very much about tending to him. They are trying to live their life as regular parents.”
Harry never enjoyed growing up in the spotlight, and things only got worse after he lost his mother. It makes sense that he wanted a different path for his son, even if it meant leaving everything he knows and facing backlash from royal fans. These days, though, Harry and Meghan seem happier than ever. And though some are still unhappy with their exit, they only did what they thought was best for their little boy’s future.
