Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are ‘Very Reclusive’ and Not Making Friends With Neighbors in California, Royal Expert Claims
In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the United Kingdom and settled down in California. Many people predicted that the couple would be enthusiastically forging connections with Hollywood celebrities who live in the area. However, a royal expert claims that Harry and Meghan have actually been “very reclusive.”
Which celebrities live in the same neighborhood as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?
Instead of living in Los Angeles, Harry and Meghan put down roots in Santa Barbara County. In 2020, the couple bought a $14.7 million home in Montecito.
According to Hello!, the Sussexes have some very famous neighbors. For example, Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres both have homes in the same exclusive area of Montecito.
Actor Rob Lowe also once opened up about living near the couple. He told the Sunday Sitdown podcast of his Harry sightings, “He’s my neighbor and he turned into the driveway so I know it was him.” Lowe also claimed to have seen Harry with a ponytail.
Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry reside near the Sussexes as well. In May 2021, Harry revealed on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast that Bloom helped him avoid paparazzi in the area.
The Sussexes are reportedly ‘very reclusive’
Earlier this month, there were reports about Harry and Meghan’s neighbors wanting to distance themselves from the Sussexes. These rumors came from author Lady Colin Campbell, who said, “The billionaires don’t want to touch them, nobody wants to touch them.”
However, royal commentator Neil Sean alleged in a YouTube video that these claims are “completely false.”
“What’s truly happened is this: Harry and Meghan have become very, very reclusive,” he said.
Sean also added that “lots of neighbors have tried to become friends with the former royals,” but Harry and Meghan are “frightened about anything about their life getting out.” As such, the two of them reportedly try to keep tight control on the information they share with the public.
“I do understand why Harry, in particular, is very keen to keep hold of that privacy,” Sean said. “It remains to be seen, though, just how much further or longer they can remain private, because they are celebrities now.”
The Sussexes have been battling the press for privacy
Harry and Meghan have shown they are not afraid to stand up against invasions of their privacy.
Back when Harry first started dating Meghan, some British tabloids published “defamatory stories” about her that were filled with racism and sexism undertones. Harry issued a statement urging them to stop this kind of coverage.
In 2019, the Sussexes launched a lawsuit against a few newspapers for invading their privacy by publishing a letter Meghan wrote to her dad. The Sussexes also claimed these newspapers were attacking their image. In February 2021, the court sided with Meghan. However, the newspapers have been trying to appeal that ruling.
