Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Newest Netflix Series Is Being Heavily Criticized: ‘Nail in the Coffin’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a deal with Netflix for several years, but one expert thinks the couple’s recent production, a series about polo, could be their ‘nail in the coffin’ with the streaming giant.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have taken on plenty of new business ventures since they separated from the royal family in 2020. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been living in California ever since, and they have built partnerships with Netflix and Spotify (though the Spotify deal has since ended), among others.

Harry and Meghan produced a high-profile documentary with Netflix, which detailed their difficulties with the press and the royal family, in 2023. And while it was wildly successful, they have struggled with some other productions through Netflix.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s polo series is being criticized

Harry and Meghan recently produced a series called “Polo” that gives an in-depth look at the ins out and outs of the popular sport. However, the series was quickly criticized by some haters and reportedly hasn’t performed as well as expected. According to Express, viewers were also confused by how “little” Harry is actually in the series, presumably because the expectation was that he would be a bigger part of it.

Brand and culture expert Nick Ede told Daily Mail that if Harry and Meghan’s polo series flubs, it could potentially create problems for the couple’s Netflix deal. “This could potentially be a nail in the coffin for their deal with the streaming giant who now use algorithms to make sure their programming is perfect for their subscribers,” Ede said.

It’s important to note that the ins and outs of Harry and Meghan’s contract with Netflix are not known, and while a poor-performing series wouldn’t be a wonderful thing, it does not necessarily mean the couple’s contract would be terminated.

The couple did have one series in production, a children’s show called Pearl, that was ultimately scrapped by the network.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to be doing well financially

Ever since Harry and Meghan moved to the US, royal experts have speculated that the two might not have much money. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Meghan recently invested in a friend’s new hair care line, and the Sussexes also reportedly bought a vacation home this year in Portugal — both of which suggest they have plenty of money to spend.

Harry and Meghan have also been at the center of divorce rumors for quite some time, but Harry seemingly put those rumors to bed during a conversation at the New York Times’ DealBook summit in December 2024. He said he feels bad for the “trolls” who are constantly making up lies about him and Meghan with the hopes that they come true.
