Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been at odds with the royal family since before the two stepped down from their senior roles back in 2020. Ever since, the Sussexes have been living a freer life in the United States, where they’ve been able to create their own agendas and focus on their own projects. However, their decision to leave the family has come with plenty of negative feedback over the two capitalizing on their royal story for money.

Some of the claims made by Harry and Meghan might be entirely true, but at least one expert is challenging the couple’s security claim after the two spent four days touring Colombia.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have said security is an issue in the United Kingdom

When Harry and Meghan were working royals, they were entitled to taxpayer funded security; they received the same level of protection as King Charles and Prince William. But after stepping down, Britain opted to pull that level of security, and Harry has said in interviews that he won’t bring Meghan and the kids back to his home country because of the dangers that could be lurking.

However, Harry and Meghan recently visited Colombia, and while the country spent a whopping $2 million protecting the couple, the move seems to show a crack in their argument that the UK is too unsafe.

“You have the Colombian government, a very unsafe place with a danger warning on it, yet somehow much safer for the security-conscious Sussexes to go and visit,” commentator Caroline Aston told GB News, via Express.

According to the United States government website, Colombia currently has a level 3 travel advisory. “Reconsider travel due to crime and terrorism. Exercise increased caution due to civil unrest and kidnapping,” the government website says. The site then lists specific areas to avoid while in Colombia, though it’s unclear whether Harry and Meghan entered any of that territory.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claim the UK is too unsafe

Of course, Harry says his home country is unsafe for different reasons than the warnings about Colombia travel. Harry worries that someone could harm his wife and kids due to attacks the family has received in the media. Still, some people think it feels hypocritical to travel to a country that the US advises against going to in the name of danger, yet they won’t travel to the UK; it suggests there is a crack in the couple’s security argument and that this might not be the only reason Harry and Meghan won’t travel to the UK as one unit.

Harry has long claimed that he doesn’t feel safe in the UK, and he has stuck with that. He is even appealing the court’s decision to side with Britain over removing the Sussexes security. Time will tell if Harry wins that appeal.
