Lip-reading Experts Reveal What Prince Harry and Prince William Actually Said to Each Other at Commonwealth Day
Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex attended their final royal engagement as senior members of the British royal family. On March 9, the pair attended Commonwealth Day as president and vice-president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.
It was the very last engagement on their extremely packed and hectic schedule that began in late February 2020 when the couple returned to the U.K. for the first time since announcing Megxit at the top of the year.
Commonwealth Day was also the first time the Sussexes publically interacted with Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge this year. From the video footage, it was all very awkward. We know that Prince Harry and Prince William have a ton of tension between them. Here’s what was said according to lip-reading experts.
Queen Elizabeth kicked Meghan Markle and Prince Harry out of her Commonwealth Day processional
Things were already awkward before Commonwealth Day when it was announced that the Sussexes had been booted from Queen Elizabeth’s processional. Instead of walking in with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the Sussexes were quietly shown their seats.
“Confirmed: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be part of the Queen’s procession through Westminster Abbey at the start of the Commonwealth Service as they make their final official appearance as senior royals #HarryandMeghan,” Daily Mail’s royal correspondent Rebecca English.
Prince William and Kate Middleton pulled out of the processional last minute
It was initially thought that Queen Elizabeth pulled both the Cambridges and the Sussexes from the processional to spare the foursome any close examinations over their interactions. Now, it appears that Prince William and Kate made that choice on their own.
Hello! Magazine is reporting that the Order of Service that was released prior to the event included the Cambridge, but they pulled out of the procession at the very last minute.
Meghan and Kate sat in different rows and did not appear to interact, Prince William and Prince Harry, however, had one very tense interaction.
This is what Prince Harry and Prince William actually said to each other at Commonwealth Day
According to Royal commentator Camilla Tominey. the Daily Telegraph’s lip-reader gave the lowdown on the brothers’ conversation. “When Harry sit down he says to Meghan, ‘he just said Hello Harry to me and that was it’ and Meghan smiles,” Tominey explained. “We don’t know whether he was referring to William or dignitaries he had just been getting including Boris Johnson.”
Then, when Prince William sat down, he turned to Kate and said, ‘This whole handshaking thing is weird. We’re going to have to put a load of hand gel on after this’. Prince Harry’s full quote which he is claimed to have said to Meghan was: “He literally said: ‘Hello, Harry’ and that was it and he didn’t say anything more than that.”
The hand gel Prince William was referring to is due to the coronavirus outbreak. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the Sussexes or the Cambridges will be mending any fences anytime soon.
