Prince Harry Recalls How Quickly the Fab Four Fell Apart When it ‘Became Meghan vs. Kate’
Many royal fans still remember all those pictures of Prince William, the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton), Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle smiling and laughing together each time they were seen out and about. When the Duchess of Sussex joined Britain’s famous family, people were so excited to see four popular royals, who represented the future of the monarchy, working together and dubbed them the “Fab Four.” But it wasn’t meant to be.
What the public didn’t realize was that trouble was brewing behind the scenes as the princes were at odds.
According to Prince Harry, he was as hopeful that his marriage to Meghan would lead to a closer relationship with his brother. That thought was shattered though when the duke says the attention on the Fab Four turned into “Meghan vs. Kate.”
Prince Harry says what was supposed to be the Fab Four ‘became Meghan vs. Kate’
During the promotional tour for his tell-all memoir Spare, Prince Harry did an interview with journalist Tom Bradbury. It was during that conversation when the duke discussed the relationship between his wife and his sister-in-law and why the foursome quickly disintegrated. A clip of the prince’s comments has been posted on social media and is making the rounds.
“I thought the four of us would bring me and William closer together. We could go out and do work together,” Harry said. “I always hoped that the four of us would get on, but very quickly it became Meghan versus Kate.”
The Duke of Sussex went on to blame the British press for that as well as William and Kate, claiming they didn’t make Meghan feel welcome in the family.
“And some of the things that my brother and sister-in-law, some of the way that they were acting and behaving,” Harry began to allege before Bradby interjected asking, “What do you mean specifically?”
The duke then replied: “American actress, divorced, biracial. There’s all different parts to that and what that can mean.”
Tension during their last public engagement and where things stand now
Looking back now perhaps no one could have predicted how bad things would have gotten after Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals. But there’s no denying how tense things were during their last official engagement with William and Kate on March 9, 2020.
The couples arrived at Westminster Abbey separately. By the time the Waleses got there, the Sussexes were already seated and William exchanged pleasantries with Harry and Meghan before he sat down. However, Kate did not even make eye contact with either of them before she took her seat. And for anyone watching, the tension throughout the rest of the service between them was so thick you could have cut it with a knife.
Since then, there have been bombshell interviews in which the duke and duchess made some damning allegations and aired out the royal family’s dirty laundry as well as a Netflix docuseries and Harry’s controversial memoir, which have only deepened their rift.
