When Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their senior royal roles back in 2020, they faced extremely harsh criticism. However, the two have continued to rally despite a difficult relationship with the media and are now living a more private life in the United States.

Still, it’s clear that Harry isn’t over his home country. He loves the United Kingdom, but support garnered from Princess Diana’s family this year proves the prince will never fully cut ties from where he came from.

Prince Harry’s relationship with Princess Diana’s family proves he’ll always come home

When Harry and Meghan stepped down, they cut ties with Harry’s immediate family. Even if that was not part of their initial plan, Harry and Meghan’s decision to leave opened the royals up to major criticism, leaving many of them frustrated with the Sussexes’ decision. Harry went a long time without returning to the UK, but this year, he’s garnered substantial support from his mother’s side of the family.

Back in May, Harry flew to the UK for a ceremony that honored his Invictus Games Foundation. And while none of the royals attended, Harry’s aunts, uncles, and cousins on his mother’s side were there to support him. And when the prince returned to the UK in August for his late uncle’s memorial service, he stayed at Althorp, his mother’s family estate.

The connection proves that Harry will never let go of the UK for a full life in the US. Many people thought that with Harry being so iced out by his family, he would disappear from his home country. But he actually has plenty of relatives who continue to show support.

Princess Diana’s family could help Prince Harry make a semi-permanent UK return

Harry has said he longs to bring his wife and kids to his home country but that he hasn’t been able to for security reasons. But should that situation ever sort itself out, Diana’s family could potentially help Harry feel more at home in a place where other family members want nothing to do with him. It isn’t hard to picture Harry and Meghan spending time at Althorp as opposed to staying with King Charles or Prince William.

Harry remains close with Diana’s family, likely as a nod to his late mother, with whom he shared a very close relationship. It wouldn’t come as a surprise if, in the next few years, they’re the ones helping the Sussex family re-integrate into the UK with regular family visits.
