Prince Harry Is ‘Separating From the Bad Press’ Surrounding Meghan Markle and Showing His ‘Value’ With Recent Appearances, Expert Claims
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have always put up a united front. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made headlines in 2020 when they announced that they would be stepping back from their roles as senior royals, and through all the drama and difficulty that came with that, they’ve remained at one another’s side.
Now, with some bad press floating around Meghan Markle, Prince Harry seems to be doing something different with his own media attention — and it actually might be that he’s trying to help her.
Prince Harry has focused on charity and positive public appearances
The Duke of Sussex has been out on his own for the last few days as he takes on various engagements surrounding a number of charitable ventures, such as The HALO Trust and the Diana Award. The prince has largely remained away from controversy ever since he received the Pat Tillman Award earlier this year — and it’s likely his way of rebuilding the Sussexes’ reputation.
Harry’s trips were certainly pre-planned, but they come at a time when Meghan has been handed some bad press; sources close to the duchess came forward in September to talk about how difficult she was to work with, and it’s been hard for the public to get past it. But Harry might have a new plan in place: Raise up Meghan by lifting up his own publicity.
“There has been a separation [of their work] for a while,” PR strategist Mark Borkowski has said of the couple, adding that they need a “venture that deflects” from the business ideas that didn’t pan out and the negative press surrounding the duchess.
Borkowski said of Harry’s recent charitable engagements: “It has the effect of separating them from the bad press and the failed content ideas. The punters still have time for Harry.” Harry is essentially showing that he has “value beyond the controversial stuff.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have always supported each other
Harry’s choice to do work independent from Meghan doesn’t mean anything is wrong with the couple; if anything, it’s a divide-and-conquer mentality where they can each take on different audiences and win their reputations back. Harry’s dedication to public charity events is only going to build him up and, in turn, build Meghan up as well.
Harry and Meghan have worked hard to improve their likeability, but Meghan took a major hit when news broke recently that she was allegedly awful to work with. Still, the stories came from unnamed sources, meaning it’s impossible to know how truthful everything is. Either way, they’re doing what they can to rebuild the way the public sees them.
