Prince Harry‘s 40th birthday was marked by not one, but two posts; one from the royal family and the other from the Prince and Princess of Wales. But has the House of Windsor welcomed him back, or were their pleasantries just “polite”?

Prince Harry’s birthday message is a good sign for royal relations

Prince Harry had his 40th birthday on Sept. 15. The Duke of Sussex hit the personal milestone marker celebrating with his wife, Meghan Markle, their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and some of his closest friends.

Harry’s day was marked by a message from the royal family and the Prince and Princess of Wales. It read, “Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!” The message was posted on the royal family’s Instagram account. It was also visible on the Prince and Princess of Wales’s Instagram story.

Thus, does this mean Harry’s been welcomed back into the family fold? That major royal development can’t be confirmed by one Instagram post.

However, this could mean that the lines of communication between the Duke and his family are open. Or, perhaps, the family was just being “polite” says royal correspondent Richard Fitzwilliams.

Royal correspondent Richard Fitzwilliams told Good Morning Britain that the royal family were being “polite” when marking Prince Harry’s 40th birthday. Fitzwilliams believed it would reflect poorly on the institution if they didn’t mark Harry’s “milestone” day.

“I think that what is happening is they were marking a milestone. Harry is 40,” Fitzwilliams stated. “Let’s just remember that four years ago this month, [Meghan and Harry] were in South Africa representing the queen. What did they do?”

He concluded, “They pulled the rug out from under the royal family and continued with what I ‘guerilla warfare.’ They had that incredibly damaging interview with Oprah with accusations of racism and that six-part documentary where they were rubbishing the commonwealth.”

Could Prince Harry rejoin the royal family?

Publicly, there have been no reconciliation talks between Prince Harry and the House of Windsor. The families subsequently remain estranged.

Privately, there could be a whole level of communication the press and the public are completely unaware of. Therefore, it’s a case of never say never when it comes to Prince Harry rejoining the royal family.

Thus, the birthday wish is a step in the right direction for the House of Windsor. Prince Harry lives in Montecito, California, with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
