Prince Harry Has Wanted to Be ‘More Important than William’ For Many Years, Royal Expert Claims

Prince William and Prince Harry are allegedly not on good terms. According to reports from the past few years, the two princes have been growing apart and there is now a rift between them.

Royal experts have tried to explain this situation in various ways. One person recently claimed that the rift had been brewing for years because Harry had often wanted to be ‘more important than William.’

Since the day he was born, William has been designated as the heir to the throne. Meanwhile, Harry is the “spare.” According to biographer Robert Lacey, who wrote the book Battle of Brothers, their childhoods was already setting the stage for a feud in their adult lives.

“These two brothers — once inseparable and now separated by much more than mere distance — have been acting out the contradictions that go back into their childhoods and even before that: into their parents’ ill-fated marriage,” Lacey said, according to Yahoo. “We have seen conflicts between heir and spare in every recent generation of the royal family — but nothing so profound as this.”

Some people even say being a “spare” is a royal “curse” that Harry would need to try his hardest to get away from.

Prince Harry reportedly wanted to be ‘more important’ than Prince William

According to author Angela Levin, Harry has been aware of his role in relation to William’s since he was young. However, when he was young, there was only so much he could do.

“When he was at Eton, [Harry] hated being there and he decided he was going to be with the bad boys,” Levin said, according to Express. “I think Harry has got this streak, a lot of us have but we put it to one side of being bad and showing up.”

Levin added, “But I think he is also wanting to be more important than William. So he’s got the ability now to say and do things that he could probably never do before. And he is enjoying being naughty.”

Prince William was reportedly more popular than Prince Harry at Eton College

William and Harry had different personalities, so they often had different school experiences. In a 2018 article from The Cut, the brothers’ old schoolmate named Jim shared that William had an easier time fitting in at Eton College than Harry.

“William was very integrated,” Jim explained. “There’s this sort of society in your top year where if you’re kind of popular or beloved by teachers and boys alike you get voted into the Eton society, which is known as ‘Pop,’ and you got to choose your own waistcoat and wear special trousers. William was a Pop so he was like a homecoming-king type, but Harry wasn’t — I think Harry probably had it harder finding his way.”

Nevertheless, William went on to graduate from university while Harry thrived in the military. Both men are now married with kids. William is continuing royal traditions in the United Kingdom, and Harry is carving his own path in the United States.
