Prince Harry’s Behavior Is ‘Completely Alien’ To Prince Philip, Royal Biographer Says
Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex isn’t on the best terms with the rest of the royal family since he and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals. The 36-year-old’s relationship with Queen Elizabeth II has taken a hit. The same goes for Harry’s relationship with his grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Philip’s typically ‘warmer’ toward Prince Harry and Prince William
Philip’s not the friendliest of royals when he’s in public. However, he’s noticeably different when his grandchildren are around. As previously noted, Harry’s always been close with Philip and that’s clear when they attend the same royal events.
“What I’ve observed–mainly with Prince William and Prince Harry– is the relationship between grandparent and child is a very different one to the relationship between father and son or daughter,” Duncan Larcombe, a royal correspondent, told Harper’s Bazaar.
“Philip is the epitome of stiff upper lip–he is never photographed crying or showing emotion publicly. But his relationship with the boys is much warmer,” he added.
Prince Philip can’t ‘understand’ Prince Harry’s behavior
Philip’s warmth toward Harry has cooled off since he and Meghan exited the royal family
Now things are different between Harry and Philip, according to Prince Philip Revealed author Ingrid Seward. The Duke of Edinburgh doesn’t understand Harry’s decision to step back from royal life.
“Philip simply cannot understand how Harry has behaved the way he has done, Seward told Vanity Fair. “His grandson’s behavior is completely alien to him so not unnaturally the relationship has suffered.”
“Don’t forget this is a man about to turn 100 who has devoted 68 years of his adult life to supporting the monarchy, and this has been a great shock,” she added.
Seward continued, saying Philip’s decision not to be present for talks regarding Harry and Meghan’s exit at the royal family’s Sandringham Estate dubbed the “Sandringham Summit” sent a clear message to Harry.
“The Queen would not want him to worry at his age, but Philip’s absence from the Sandringham Summit spoke volumes,” she said. “The fact that he was driven away from the big house at Sandringham before everyone even arrived signaled he didn’t want to be part of it.”
Prince Philip’s feelings toward Meghan Markle have changed
When Meghan met the royal family one person who took a liking to her was Harry’s grandfather, Philip.
“Philip welcomed Meghan at the beginning, he knows what it’s like to be an outsider, and so he’s always very supportive of people marrying into the family,” Seward said.
But that changed when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals.
“He quite liked Meghan at first, but their actions have left a bad taste and as a consequence the relationship with Harry has suffered,” she said.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan are now living in California with their 1-year-old son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Their plans to launch Archewell are slowly moving forward and the couple signed a massive deal with Netflix.
