Something people have noticed about Prince Harry is that he doesn’t smile too much anymore and at times, looks downright angry. There could be plenty of reasons for that. Perhaps it’s the stress of his feud with the royal family or his ongoing legal dispute to get protection for his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children when they visit the U.K. or maybe it has to do with him being more than 5,000 miles away from the place where he grew up.

Well according to a woman who has known Harry since he was a baby, it’s none of that. She claims the prince was just “born that way.”

What Prince Harry’s nanny told people about the duke

Lady Anne Glenconner was a dear friend of the late Queen Elizabeth II and served as a maid of honor at her coronation in 1953. She was also very close to the queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, and was a lady-in-waiting for the Countess of Snowdon from 1971 till her death in 2002.

Glenconner was close not only with members of the royal family but also with some of the staffers who worked for them, including Barbara Barnes. She was a nanny in the royal household when Prince William and Prince Harry were babies. In an interview with journalist Tina Brown, Glenconner revealed what Barnes thought of the princes when she cared for them.

“Barbara adored Prince William,” Glennconner said per Newsweek. “Harry, I think, was a bit more difficult when he was small.”

Brown wanted to dig a little deeper into that and asked, “You mentioned something she said about Harry?” Glenconner then confessed that Barnes told her: “He was born angry.”

Barnes left her position as the boys’ nanny in January 1986 but continued to maintain a friendship with Glenconner over the years.

Expert says Harry has actually shown ‘growth’ since leaving the U.K.

And while Harry may not smile a lot these days, an expert says there are things about the duke’s whole demeanor that show he’s really grown since leaving his home country.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Bingo Stanton explained: “Moving away from the U.K. has been the making of Harry. It’s been a catalyst for some huge changes in him as a person as well as a royal. We’ve seen a lot of growth since then. He’s able to assert more dominance and apply his inner strength in public situations.”

The expert added: “Harry is currently his most confident self after finding his purpose and stepping away from his royal duties. He is now in a position where he doesn’t feel as much pressure. Harry exudes a sense of security and freedom. He calmly carries himself, he’s collected and at peace.

“Before stepping away, Harry didn’t have the same levels of confidence that he portrays now. He previously would demonstrate feelings of nervousness and frustration. We would see his cheeks flush red when he felt embarrassed or on edge, as well as adopting regular fake smiles to cover up his true emotions. He would struggle to maintain consistent eye contact — a key sign of lack of confidence. Nowadays, we rarely see Harry adopting any of these gestures, which tells us there has been massive growth in confidence in recent years.”
