When Meghan first joined the royal family, tabloids rushed to report that the Duchess of Sussex didn’t get along with her new sister-in-law, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. However, as the months wore on, royal fans began noticing signs of tension between a different pair of royals — Prince William and his younger brother, Prince Harry.

According to reports, the feud first started in 2016, when Prince William voiced his concerns to Prince Harry that the redheaded royal was moving too quickly in his romance with Meghan. Needless to say, Prince Harry ignored Prince William’s advice to slow down, and married Meghan in May 2018.

It seems as though their feud continued to get worse over the next year, with the siblings separating their residences. Prince Harry even separated from the joint charity that he and Prince William had shared. In late 2019, Prince Harry even confirmed their falling-out in an interview with Tom Brady, admitting that they just had differing viewpoints on some things.

Why did Prince Harry move to LA?

In January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan shocked the world when they announced that they would be retiring as senior royals and intended to pursue their own business ventures and make their own income. Many royal fans wondered where the couple would settle down, whether in Canada or the United Kingdom. Prince Harry and Meghan made yet another surprising move when they moved to LA only a couple of months after their big announcement.

The couple didn’t announce their reasons for choosing California as a new home base, however, many have theorized that LA provides the perfect spot for Meghan’s reintroduction into the entertainment industry. This theory has been given some weight in light of a new documentary by Disney, which is narrated by Meghan. In addition, they now live close to the duchess’ mother, Doria Ragland.

Prince Harry hasn’t been as visible as Meghan since moving to LA, and many reports claim that he has been struggling in his new environment. COVID-19 has forced him to stay indoors more than ever, and the pandemic became personal to him earlier in the spring, when his father, Prince Charles, was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus

It could have been his father’s diagnosis, along with his lingering loneliness, that provided the impetus for him to reconnect with his older brother.

“There have been clearly some quite major rifts in that relationship, but things have got better and I know that William and Harry are in touch on the phone,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight in May. “They have done video calls together, they have done a lot of family birthdays and I think with Prince Charles not being well, that really forced the brothers to pick up the phone and get back in touch.”

According to a new report, Prince Harry has been “leaning on” Prince William as he tries to adjust to his new LA lifestyle. US Weekly reports, citing an insider: “Moving to a completely different country is never easy for anyone, including Harry. And he wasn’t expecting to be faced with so many obstacles.”

The report states that Prince William understands how Prince Harry is struggling and has advised his brother to eventually move elsewhere, once things settle down. “William’s advised Harry to return to London or move elsewhere, somewhere safer,” the insider says. “He’s concerned about his brother’s well-being and safety.”

In addition, the report reveals that Prince Harry is talking regularly with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. The monarch has reportedly “been reaching out to Harry to see if he’s OK and has offered to help out if needed.”

It certainly seems as though the pandemic has had some positive side effects for the royal, even if he has had to go through some particularly trying times to get to that better place.

“I think there is a sense of relief on both sides that this high drama is now a thing of the past,” Nicholl said in the aforementioned Entertainment Tonight interview. “The Sussexes are free to get on with their new lives [and] the Cambridges can get back to their old lives without all the upset and drama that was clearly a big deal behind the scenes.
