Prince Harry’s Secret Instagram Revealed in New Biography
Prince Harry has seemingly never really done the Instagram thing. The only Instagram account people knew him to use was @SussexRoyal — a professional account he shared with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex that has been inactive ever since they stepped down as senior members of the royal family. However, a new biography claims the duke used to have a private account on the platform under a handle impossible to detect.
What to know about Prince Harry’s secret Instagram account
Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand revealed the account in their upcoming book Finding Freedom, which is slated for an Aug. 11 release.
In excerpts obtained by The Times, the writers claim Prince Harry used to operate the account @SpikeyMau5 — a name that apparently combines his nickname “Spike” and one of his favorite musical artists, Deadmau5. Details about the account are limited, but the writers say the profile picture was an image of mouse-shaped helmet.
Meghan allegedly started following the account after their first date and then posted a flirty note about the outing on her now-shuttered account. It was a photo of a candy heart inscribed with “Kiss Me” that she captioned, “Lovehearts in #London,” according to the book.
Inside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first date
Prince Harry and Meghan were set up on a blind date in July 2016 by a mutual friend whose identity has yet to be confirmed. The book says the pair had dinner at Soho House’s Dean Street Townhouse in London and quickly fell off “in their own little world” as they talked and got to know each other. The date is said to have lasted for nearly three hours.
For the second date, which the book says happened the next night, Prince Harry and Meghan allegedly returned to the same place for dinner. A friend told the writers that they “chatted a lot” that evening and had electric chemistry. “Harry knew they would be together at that point,” the friend said. “She was ticking every box fast.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship continued to move at lightning speed
Six weeks after that date, they traveled to Botswana, Africa, where a People source said they fell in love. “Technically the getaway was just their third date,” a friend said in the book, “but by then, they were each already dancing around the idea that this just may be a forever thing.”
Prince Harry confirmed their relationship via a statement in November 2016 after reports picked up on their romance and proposed about a year later. The pair married in a fairytale ceremony in May 2018 and welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6, 2019.
After experiencing nonstop media scrutiny and royal pressure throughout their relationship, the couple announced in January that they had decided to step back from their senior positions. Once the plans went into effect, they left the United Kingdom for Canada before settling in Meghan’s native Los Angeles in March. They are now staying at an $18 million mansion owned by Tyler Perry until they can find a place of their own.
