After his royal wedding to Meghan Markle in May 2018, Prince Harry’s body language offered hints to expert Judi James. What kind of hints? The body language expert noticed signs of the Duke of Sussex’s “simmering unhappiness” with Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.

“Like his brother William, Harry appeared to adopt a philosophical view of the woman once called ‘The Rottweiler’ and be willing to make verbal declarations of affection for her,” James told FEMAIL

However, Harry and Camilla’s interactions have appeared to change in recent years. James continued, examining the Duke of Sussex’s behavior. It “seems to have been linked to and possibly dependent on his relationship with his father,” she said. “It looks very much as though Harry needed an alienation from his father before he dropped some of the social niceties with Camilla.”

It’s not often Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are seen at an event alongside Camilla and Charles. However, May 2018 marked one of the few occasions. During Meghan’s first 100 days as a royal, the foursome attended a public engagement in Charles’ honor.

Just days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s nuptials, they attended Charles’ patronage celebration to mark his turning 70. Harry said a few words. He even joked about a bumblebee. James noted what appeared to be tension in Harry’s body language despite the occasional laughter and or smile.

“The signals of simmering unhappiness and even resentment or anxiety are appearing obvious in Harry’s body language,” she said. At one point, according to James, Harry seemed to be “glowering” in Charles and Camilla’s direction. “He performs a tight mouth clamp that suggests anger, as well as a frown,” she explained. Additionally, “his bounce has gone and his hands are clasped behind his back.”

In July 2018, two months after Charles’ birthday patronage event, once again Harry’s body language toward his father and stepmother appeared strained, according to James.

During a celebration to mark 100 years of the Royal Air Force, Harry and Meghan stood on Buckingham Palace’s balcony to watch a flyover. In that short time since the foursome’s last public outing, James said the “signals of alienation” had become “much more marked.” Same with Harry’s “signals of distress.”

“This is now a man seen looking worried or haunted rather than a man creating and enjoying fun,” she said, referring to the Duke of Sussex.

James continued, pointing out the “huge spacial gap” between Camilla and Charles and Harry and Meghan on the balcony.

“Both Harry and Meghan stand stiffly to attention, turning just their heads in a gesture of acknowledgment rather than affection,” she said.
