Prince Harry’s Still Trying to Get Back Into King Charles’ Good Graces, But the Monarch Really Wants Something Else During His ‘Twilight Years’
Prince Harry recently returned to the U.K. for a three-day visit to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. However, the duke did not see any of his family members while he was in town. Sources in Harry’s camp claim that he wanted to see his father, King Charles, but the monarch was too busy to meet with him. Palace sources though insist that the prince never made a request to see the king.
Now, there are reports that Harry will not give up trying to win back his father’s favor even though the monarch longs for something other than drama during his “twilight years.”
King Charles ‘didn’t appreciate’ what Prince Harry did after their last meeting
King Charles’ packed schedule when Harry was in London is thought to be the main reason why the two didn’t get to see each other. But longtime royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes there may be another reason why the king didn’t meet with his youngest son. He opined that the monarch “did not appreciate” something Harry did after their last meeting.
“It’s probable the king did not appreciate Harry’s interview on Good Morning America, after they met in February, when he learnt of his father’s diagnosis and when he talked of family unity,” Fitzwilliams told The Mirror.
He explained that if the duke would visit the U.K. and ensure that whatever they talked about would remain private, Chares would surely see him saying: “If Harry would come to Britain privately, arranging a meeting beforehand, I am sure his father would see him.”
An insider added that King Charles “will always have a place in his heart for Harry” but he doesn’t need or want the drama at this time and would rather have “peace” for the rest of his reign.
“Harry’s made his bed. I’m an advocate for protecting your peace, and if this young man is bringing the drama, then good on King Charles for giving him the space he needs to grow,” a source said via The Mirror. “King Charles just wants to have his peace in his twilight years. He doesn’t want to argue.”
Another family member has ‘disowned’ Prince Harry
While it remains to be seen just how things play out with the Duke of Sussex and his father going forward, many royal watchers agree that any hope of a reconciliation between Harry and the future king is a lost cause.
According to royal expert Jennie Bond, Prince William is done and has “disowned” his sibling.
She told Times Radio: “I think as far as William is concerned, Harry really doesn’t exist. William has enough pressure on his heart and his head, with his wife and her ongoing cancer treatment, and his father, his job, and his kids that I don’t think he’s got any room in his soul to worry about his estranged brother … I think William has disowned Harry.”
