Prince Harry’s in his final days as a 30-something and is “very happy,” according to a royal expert. “What more could he want?” they asked ahead of the Duke of Sussex’s birthday on Sept. 15, 2024. As Harry nears 40, here’s why an expert says he’s “happy” with his life.

Expert says Harry is ‘very happy’ as he approaches 40

Speaking to the U.K.’s The Sun, royal expert Ingrid Seward discussed Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle and their life together in California. (The pair celebrated six years of marriage in May.) While the Duchess of Sussex may be the “more powerful person in the couple,” Harry’s more than content with his life.

“I believe from what I’ve heard from friends of his that he is very happy in California,” Seward said. “He’s about to be 40, he’s living in the most beautiful place, he’s got two children and a wife he loves. What more could he want?”

Harry and Meghan left royal life in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California, along with their now-5-year-old son, Prince Archie. They’ve since welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, 3, and have shared glimpses of their new life in various interviews.

Harry’s happiness in California may not last

Although Harry appears to be “very happy” with life in California, that may not always be the case. The royal author shared her own prediction that Harry will eventually long for certain things from his former life in the United Kingdom.

“He hasn’t been there [California] long enough yet to become unsettled,” she said. “But I think a time will come when he yearns for the green grass of home.” Then there’s the question of “purpose” Harry—and Meghan—face as he heads toward the fifth year of his post-royal life.

“What is the purpose of Prince Harry and what is Prince Harry’s purpose?” a former aide told England’s The Sunday Times. “The work with Invictus is great and fatherhood was the role he most wanted, so perhaps those are enough for him. But everything else is a bit woolly. I always thought he wanted more from life. I can’t help but think he must be wondering, ‘Where do I go from here?’”

Not only is Harry entering a new decade of his life, but he’ll do so with some extra money—OK, a lot—in the bank. The father of two stands to inherit nearly $10 million from his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, when he turns 40.

While his estranged brother, Prince William, doesn’t reportedly want Harry to gain access to the funds, they’re legally his so, come Sept. 15, 2024, when Harry is officially a year older, he stands to get millions of dollars.

That means Harry and Meghan’s estimated combined net worth could potentially come closer to the $70 million mark. Needless to say, it stands to be a very happy birthday for Harry indeed.
