Prince Harry’s ‘Worst Fears’ Have Reportedly Been Confirmed as His ‘Last Line’ to the Royal Family Is Severed
Prince Harry has seemingly lost an ally within the British royal family, his cousin and close friend, Princess Eugenie. The 34-year-old is reportedly off of an “unofficial blacklist” after spending time with the Duke of Sussex, 39, in 2023. Now, Eugenie and her older sister, Princess Beatrice, 35, are supporting the monarchy, Prince William, 41, and Kate Middleton, 42.
Eugenie’s ‘proved her commitment’ to the royal family, confirming Harry’s ‘worst fears’
Eugenie is no longer in Harry’s corner. Speaking to Woman’s Day, an insider claimed the mother of two is off of an “unofficial blacklist” after hosting Harry and Meghan Markle in Portugal in 2023
“But that was last year, and she’s worked hard to prove her commitment to the royals,” they said. Eugenie, they added, “didn’t reach out to Harry when she was in LA in February.”
(The Duke and Duchess of Sussex live in Montecito, California. Eugenie is the only British royal to have visited the couple in California to date.)
All of this isn’t good for Harry as it “confirmed his worst fears that his last line to his family was over.” The insider went on to say Harry hasn’t heard from Eugenie or Beatrice in 2024, noting “everyone’s focus is on getting Kate and William through this crisis.”
The Prince of Wales, they noted, views Eugenie and Beatrice as “assets” to the family, adding that it “makes sense” for them to take on more.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are giving William their ‘support’
The royal family has had a rocky start to the year. Multiple people were diagnosed with cancer: King Charles III, the Princess of Wales, and Eugenie and Beatrice’s mother, Sarah Ferguson.
Not to mention the drama that unfolded publicly. Ahem, the many conspiracy theories about the Princess of Wales’ health and her controversial Mother’s Day photo. Now, Beatrice and Eugenie are doing what they can to be there for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
“Bea and Eugenie can’t imagine what William is going through right now,” a palace insider said. “And it was an honour [sic] for them to give him some support.”
“The York sisters,” they added, “were determined not to let him down.” Furthermore, the two felt “overjoyed” to be up for substantial roles. (The sisters were previously said to feel snubbed by their uncle, the king, for not being asked to step up.)
Beatrice and Eugenie stepping up in the royal family could cause problems
According to PR expert Grayce McCormick, bringing Eugenie and Beatrice off the bench, so to speak, and attending events as official working royals could “spark tension” in the royal family.
“The emergence of new working royals may fuel comparisons and competition within the Royal Family,” the founder of Lightfinder Public Relations said (via GB News).
The York sisters went to a Buckingham Palace garden party on May 21, 2024. While it may not seem like a big deal, as Beatrice and Eugenie have attended similar events before, McCormick suggested it could mean working royal status is on the way. (A previous report claimed King Charles is considering asking Beatrice to get more involved this summer.)
Eugenie herself captioned an Instagram post with the message: “Come rain or shine, I was delighted to support my family yesterday.”
The result may go beyond there being more royals to carry out duties and make public appearances at a time when numbers are low. “It could potentially lead to internal tensions or conflicts that could damage the monarchy’s public image,” McCormick said.
Whatever happens, Beatrice and Eugenie remain—for now at least—non-working royals. Meaning they won’t be on the Buckingham Palace balcony during Trooping the Colour on June 15, 2024.
