Prince Louis’ Absence This Summer Is a Strategic Move by William and Kate
Prince Louis hasn’t made a public appearance since Trooping the Colour. Meanwhile, his siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, have gone to fun events—concerts and sporting events—alongside their parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton. The reason is reportedly because it’s all part of a “careful” plan.
Louis has been absent from Wales family fun this summer
When the Prince of Wales went to Taylor Swift’s Eras concert in London, England, to mark his birthday on June 21, 2024, he danced to “Shake It Off” and sang alongside George, 11, and Charlotte, 9. However, he and the Princess of Wales’s youngest, 6-year-old Louis, wasn’t there.
(He reportedly stayed home with Kate as she continues preventative chemotherapy treatment after announcing her cancer diagnosis in March.)
Not only did he miss the concert, but Louis wasn’t there for a backstage meet-and-greet with Swift. Meaning he didn’t get to join George, Charlotte, and William as they posed for selfies with the “Fortnight” singer.
Louis missed out on yet another fun family outing when George and William traveled to Germany to watch England compete in the final round of the EUFA European Championship against Spain.
Meanwhile, that same weekend, Charlotte joined their mom, Kate, and aunt, Pippa Middleton Matthews, at the Wimbledon finals on July 14, 2024. The three sat in the Royal Box, where they watched Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz win the tournament for the second year in a row.
Louis’ absence this summer is part of a ‘gentle introduction’ to public life
According to Mirror, the absence of Louis at events this summer is part of a “careful” plan. During True Royalty TV’s The Royal, ITV News royal producer Lizzie Robinson explained that William and Kate are getting Louis used to public life with a “gentle introduction.”
“They’ve been really careful to manage how they’ve done it and what they’ve taken them to,” she said of Louis, George, and Charlotte. “They’ve considered each event on a case-by-case basis.”
“And the fact that Louis wasn’t taken suggests they are considering what they think is right for each child at what time. So, you know, his time will come.”
William and Kate did the same thing with Louis’ siblings
Staying out of the spotlight is nothing new for the Wales kids. According to Ingrid Seward, a royal expert and author. “William and Kate have always been wary of exposing their children to the public,” she said.
The reason is that “William still has painful memories of his own childhood and how he hated the persistent attention.” Like Louis, “Prince George’s public entrance into royal life had a gentle beginning. Kate and William planned it that way and will continue to do so.”
Louis has gone viral for one thing or another. Think: blowing out a candle, yawning, or making silly faces just about every time he makes a public appearance. The sheer amount of attention has, in the past, worried Kate and William.
So, for now, it seems Louis is focusing not on gradually getting used to royal life but on being a boy. And, perhaps unfortunately for him, that means missing out on soccer games, Wimbledon, and concerts.
