Prince Louis of Cambridge is the youngest child of Duchess Kate Middleton and Prince William. Since the little prince is still a baby, we haven’t seen much of him just yet, but we did see his chubby cheeks when he was baptized in July 2018 in the historic surroundings of the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace. Also, we saw adorable photographs of Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s little brother bonding with his grandfather, Prince Charles.

The little royal was born April 23, 2018, at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London. At present Prince Louis is fifth in line for the throne. Like his siblings, Prince Louis’ name was not chosen lightly. Here is his full name and who he was named after.

Who is Prince Louis named after?

The youngest son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s full name is Louis Arthur Charles. The baby prince’s first name honors his late paternal great-great-great-uncle Lord Louis Mountbatten. Prince Philip’s father figure was assassinated in 1979 by a bomb planted by members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army. His brother, Prince George and his father, Prince William also have the name Louis as one of their middle names.

The prince’s middle name Arthur is a family name that he shares with his grandfather, Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, and father, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis. Finally, Charles pays tribute to the prince’s grandfather, the future King of England.

Prince Louis’ royal title

Right now, Prince Louis’ official royal title doesn’t have much flair. He’s simply known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge. However, once his father becomes the King of England followed by his older brother, Prince Louis’ title will change as he’s given more positions in the royal family.

The prince will never be king, but he will always be a prominent member of the British Royal Family.

Who is Prince George named after?

Prince Louis’ big brother’s full name is Prince George Alexander Louis. George is named for Queen Elizabeth’s late father, King George VI. In general, the name is a royal favorite. It’s a name that extends back to the 12th century, and it’s also one of his grandfather’s middle names.

Alexander pays homage to his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth whose middle name is Alexandra. Also, Arthur and Louis are strong royal names that Prince George shares with his grandfather and father.

Who is Princess Charlotte named after?

Prince Louis’ older sister Princess Charlotte is the only daughter to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  Her full name is Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Her first name is also her aunt, Pippa Middleton’s middle name. Most people don’t realize this, but Charlotte is also the feminized version of the princess’ grandfather’s name, Charles.

As far as her middle names, Elizabeth and Diana are concerned, the Mary Jane-wearing tot is named for her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II and her late paternal grandmother, Princess Diana.
