Prince William Being a ‘Dad’ Behind the Scenes of a YouTube Video, Revealed
One mention of Prince George and Prince William “turned into a dad” behind the scenes of a 2023 YouTube video. What the Prince of Wales, 41, talked about—while sitting in a food truck—and why it proved to be a “special moment.”
William had a ‘chat’ behind the scenes of a Sorted Food YouTube video
William invited YouTube’s Sorted Food founders to review innovations from three Earthshot Prize winners for a 2023 video, seen below. In it, they created an “Earthshot Burger” as a nod to William’s foundation before handing out samples to—very surprised—members of the public.
Behind the scenes, however, is when Sorted Foods’ Jamie ‘Spaff’ Spafford had a “special moment” with William.
“For me, the most special moment of that was actually when we were in the van with him,” Spafford said (via Express). “The cameras weren’t there because they’d gone off to go and get you and everyone else that was within the community to start the surprise.”
“We just started having a chat,” he added.
William became a ‘dad’ at the mention of Prince George’s
Spafford continued, sharing that when he mentioned George, now 11, William immediately went into “dad” mode.
“I was like, ‘So that’s my daughter. That’s Evie; she was actually really hoping that Prince George might be with you today. She knows that he comes with you on a fair few of these things,’ and he went, ‘Ahh.’”
“He turned into a dad. In that split second, he turned into a dad and was talking about the fact that it was a really busy week and that Prince George was doing exams. And so he was quite stressed.”
William went on to say they’d “been doing revision in the evenings and that kind of thing.”
“For, like, five minutes of conversation, you weren’t talking to the world’s, like, most famous man,” Spafford added. “You were talking to a dad about normal things.”
William and George have a ‘close bond’ as father and son
George and William are two peas in a—royal—pod, according to author Robert Jobson’s biography, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, out Aug. 6, 2024.
In an excerpt published by the Daily Mail, Jobson wrote that William “often” spends “quality time” with George “one-on-one.” Additionally, “he seems to relish displaying their close bond to the world.”
“George, who insists on dressing like his father when he accompanies him, is even beginning to copy William’s mannerisms. If he ever appears awkward or overwhelmed, his dad is always close by to put a protective hand on his shoulder.”
This proved to be true at the soccer game William and George went to in Germany while Princess Charlotte, 9, and Kate were at Wimbledon. They cheered from the stands wearing nearly identical suits and ties. At one point they even reacted with the same hands-to-cheek expression similar to Home Alone’s Kevin McCallister.
And, of course, their night out at Taylor Swift’s “Eras” concert with Charlotte for William’s birthday, complete with dancing to “Shake It Off” and selfies backstage.
What William wants, the author added, is for George, Charlotte, and Prince Louis “to look back at their childhood with a feeling of being wrapped in love.”
