Prince William is taking his first lengthy solo trip in a while. The Prince of Wales ventured to Africa for the Earth Shot Prize awards ceremony in early November, and it’s his first time being so far away from home since his wife, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, revealed her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

But William hasn’t forgotten about his family back home; the prince is honoring his daughter, Princess Charlotte, in the sweetest way.

William and Charlotte have always been close. Since William and Kate welcomed their first son, Prince George, they have vowed to put their family first and always be parents who have strong relationships with their children. When Kate was diagnosed with cancer in early 2024, William limited his royal appearances in an effort to make time to care for his wife and kids.

By late summer, Kate had revealed that she was cancer free. Now, William is in South Africa for the Earth Shot Prize, and he brought a little piece of Charlotte with him. Speaking with the media in South Africa, William said that he’s wearing the bracelet Charlotte made him for the Taylor Swift concert that the two attended together.

“Well, this is a relic, if you like, from a Taylor Swift concert that my daughter decided that she wanted to create a bracelet for,” William said, pointing to the bracelet on his wrist. “She gave it to me when I came away, so I promised that I’d wear it and try not to lose it while I was out here.”

William was spotted at the concert over the summer with his kids, and he went viral for his dancing. After the show, William took Charlotte and George to meet Swift and her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, where the group snapped a selfie.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are taking royal duties slowly

Kate has taken some much-needed time off this year, and while she is officially back to royal duties, the Princess of Wales has not forgotten how important her family is. William and Kate have made moves to ensure their children are brought up as normally as possible, even relocating from Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage in an effort to give the kids a quieter life away from the spotlight.

William and Kate complete fewer royal engagements than other family members, and they have received some backlash for that. However, it’s likely just in the name of being more present for their children.
