Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Reported Adelaide Cottage Move Could Mean a More Normal Childhood for George, Charlotte, and Louis
TL;DR:
- Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly moving from Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage.
- A royal expert says it doesn’t require any live-in staff because of the size.
- The move is said to be more convenient considering Prince William’s duties that often require visits to Windsor Castle.
A reported move from Kensington Palace is in the future for Prince William and Kate Middleton. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge currently have two royal residences, one at Kensington Palace in London and another in the countryside. However, according to a report, they’re in for a change of address. Adelaide Cottage is said to become their primary home. According to a royal expert, it could mean no live-in staff. And, therefore, a more normal upbringing for Kate and William’s three children.
Kate Middleton and Prince William are reportedly moving to Adelaide Cottage at Windsor Castle
According to the UK’s The Sun, the couple’s eyeing up Adelaide Cottage. The four-bedroom home, which has a 60-year history of being used as a “grace and favour” residence for royal friends, is located in Windsor Home Park.
The outlet reported Kate and William’s Adelaide Cottage move includes enrolling their three children — Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4 — in Windsor schools for the fall.
They also reported the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will use their Kensington Palace apartment for staff. Meanwhile, at Adelaide Cottage, there won’t be much in the way of staff. The newspaper reported the couple’s not planning on having any live-in staff.
If Kate and William do indeed move to Adelaide Cottage, they would be close to Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch, 96, self-isolated at Windsor Castle during the peak of coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdowns. Today it remains where she spends much of her time.
Adelaide Cottage could mean a more normal childhood for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis
Speaking to Newsweek, royal expert Ingrid Seward shared some details about Adelaide Cottage. Particularly, why there wouldn’t be staff if Kate and William make the move.
“Adelaide Cottage is small so they don’t need staff there, and they won’t have room for many so they won’t have any live-in staff,” she explained.
The Prince Philip Revealed author described the move as “for the children.” William and Kate are known for doing things to give their kids a somewhat normal upbringing. They’ve been seen dropping off their kids at school. In 2019, Kate took George and Charlotte shopping for Halloween costumes.
If Kate, William, and their three kids trade Kensington Palace for Adelaide Cottage, there will be some major differences. As Seward shared, the Windsor Great Park home is small so staff such as nannies wouldn’t live there full-time. It would stand in stark contrast to what George, Charlotte, and Louis are used to in “Apartment 1A.”
William and Kate Middleton’s home at Kensington Palace home has 20 rooms. There are multiple bedrooms and reception rooms, a gym, a nursery, and staff quarters. As a result, the Adelaide Cottage move could mean somewhat of a normal childhood for the Cambridge kids.
The move would be better for Prince William because he has a lot to do at Windsor Castle
Although Seward shared that Kate and William’s Adelaide Cottage move is primarily about their kids, it also works well for royal duties.
“William spends so much time at Windsor now doing investitures. It’s going to be really convenient for him being there and I think we’re going to see more and more happening at Windsor,” she said.
“Windsor is so convenient for everywhere,” Seward added, saying the commute to Anmer Hall, Kate and William’s country home in Norfolk, is a “problem.”
“They are also going to be near the queen and it’s nice for the queen to have her family around her.”
