Prince William Likes to Start His Week off Jamming to This Classic AC/DC Song: ‘It Absolutely Wakes You Up’
Prince William’s an AC/DC fan. The Prince of Wales, 41, likes the Australian rock group so much, one of their hit songs has a place on his playlist. Furthermore, it’s his favorite way to start the week. Ahead, what music William likes from the band, plus why it didn’t immediately win him over.
Prince William didn’t initially like ‘Thunderstruck’ for Monday mornings
How does a future king start his week? By listening to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.” William revealed as much on the Apple Fitness+ Time to Walk podcast in 2021.
Per the podcast’s official description, it “features personal stories, photos, and music from influential people to inspire Apple Watch users to walk more.”
William recounted hearing the song for the first time, telling listeners he wasn’t initially a big fan of playing “Thunderstruck” on Monday mornings.
“I have to say the first time I put it on, and I’ve heard it a million times now, I was kind of, like, ‘Well, this is quite heavy for a Monday morning.’”
The AC/DC song is now William’s go-to ‘tonic’ for a new week
William’s feelings about the song soon changed and it’s now what he considers the “best tonic” to shake off the weekend and start a new week.
“Now, when I listen to it, it’s the best tonic for a Monday morning,” the father of three said. “It absolutely wakes you up, puts your week in the best mood possible, and you feel like you can take on anything and anyone.”
“There’s nothing better than, on a Monday morning, when you’re a bit bleary-eyed after the weekend and trying to get yourself back into the grind of the week, listening to AC/DC, ‘Thunderstruck.’”
William also said some “head-banging” likely happens when walking and playing the track, noting, “It’s a difficult song not to dance to or to nod along to.”
Other music Prince William (and the Wales family) likes
Beyond AC/DC, William’s a fan of other music genres and artists. He once told a group of students he likes Coldplay and Linkin Park (via UsWeekly).
Meanwhile, Tina Turner’s “The Best” holds a special place in his heart. To kick off the podcast, William revealed the 1989 track reminds him of his late mother, Princess Diana.
“When I was younger, [Prince] Harry and I, we were at boarding school. And my mother used to play all sorts of songs to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to school,” he said.
“And one of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner’s ‘The Best’ because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment.”
As for when he and Kate Middleton’s three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, William shared that the kids were “loving” Shakira’s “Waka Waka” song.
“There’s a lot of hip movements going along with a lot of dressing up,” he said. “Charlotte particularly is running around the kitchen, in her dresses and ballet stuff. She goes completely crazy with Louis following her around trying to do the same thing.”
