Prince William and Prince Harry have not been on great terms in years. The tension between the brothers allegedly dates back to 2016, when William felt that Harry was moving too quickly with his now-wife, Meghan Markle. Harry and William reportedly are not on speaking terms today.

However, a few of William’s recent moves might suggest that he’s trying to pave the way for a potential reconciliation with his younger brother.

Prince William has mentioned Prince Harry more this year than in past years

Harry and William’s relationship seriously unraveled in 2019 when Harry publicly mentioned in an interview that he and William weren’t on great terms. After Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal roles in 2020, the Sussexes then did a number of interviews detailing their time in the royal family, and Harry released a memoir all about his upbringing. In it, he took shots at both William and Kate Middleton, which seemed to make permanent the brothers’ troubled relationship. However, 2025 could be the year of a reconciliation for the two — and that’s because of William’s recent actions; not Harry’s.

Back in September, William shocked the world when he and Kate shared a happy birthday message on social media to mark Harry’s 40th birthday. It was the first time William had publicly acknowledged Harry’s birthday since 2021. But even beyond that, William’s new homelessness documentary will premiere in the UK on October 30, and in the trailer, he mentions Harry by name. William details a memory when his mother, Princess Diana, took him and Harry to see a homeless camp. The trailer also featured a still image of Harry and William with their mother on that day.

Interestingly, William has mentioned Harry publicly twice in two months after not acknowledging him in public for several years. Although nothing is confirmed, it seems that William could be subtly opening the door to let his brother back in.

Prince William’s life will look very different when he becomes king

Could Prince William be planting the seed to reconcile with Harry before he becomes king? It’s impossible to know, but running the monarchy won’t be easy. Although Harry and Meghan likely would never rejoin the family, William might not see a reconciliation as the worst thing. He might want to lean on his brother a little bit when he needs to as the king.
Kate Middleton used to have a close relationship with Harry, and she once viewed him like a little brother. Plus, Kate has always remained close with her own siblings. It’s hard to know what William is thinking, but he might want that in his own life, too.

Of course, nothing is promised, and time will tell if Harry and William ever do reconcile.
