Prince William takes his role in the British royal family very seriously. Adhering to tradition, the future Crowned King rarely speaks out about social issues.

Now, having witnessed what his sister-in-law Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has endured and some horrific racist abuse aimed at members of the Manchester United football team, the prince is speaking out.

Prince William is beginning to question some things about the British royal family

The Sussexes’ royal exit stunned the royal family, royal fans, and the British press. Though William knew Prince Harry and Meghan had been struggling amid the royal spotlight, he has lived with the scrutiny for his entire life.

However, following Megxit, he and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, dealt with some nasty rumors stemming from a profile titled “Catherine The Great” published by Tatler Magazine. The magazine commented about the duchess’ weight, claimed that claimed she felt “exhausted” due to her increased duties following Megxit, among other things.

In a rare move, the couple threatened legal action against the magazine. Shortly thereafter, the prince came forward, saying that he’s rethinking the royal policy never to complain or explain. “We have to start questioning whether it’s relevant in today’s world,” he said in the BBC documentary, Football, Prince William and our Mental Health.

Prince William and Prince Harry are on much better terms these days

William and Harry had reportedly had tension stemming back to 2016 when Prince Harry introduced Meghan to his family. It has been reported that Prince William urged his younger brother to slow down the romance, and the younger prince took offense.

Things worsened over the years, especially after the Sussexes’ marriage, and reached a boiling point when the pair reportedly blindsided the royals with Megxit. Now, one year after their bombshell announcement and their move to California, it appears that the royal brothers are on much better terms, especially following Prince Charles’ COVID-19 diagnosis.

“There have been clearly some quite major rifts in that relationship, but things have got better, and I know that William and Harry are in touch on the phone,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “They have done video calls together, they have done a lot of family birthdays, and I think with Prince Charles not being well, that really forced the brothers to pick up the phone and get back in touch.”

Prince William just tweeted about racism

Seeing the racism that Meghan endured as a senior royal and how the Sussexes’ have spoken up against it, Prince William is now speaking out about racism.

In a series of rare personal tweets, he stated, “Racist abuse – whether on the pitch, in the stands, or on social media – is despicable and it must stop now.”

The tweet came in response to investigations into racist comments directed toward a number of Manchester United players online. The prince is the President of the FA (Football Association). He continued, “We all have a responsibility to create an environment where such abuse is not tolerated, and those who choose to spread hate and division are held accountable for their actions. That responsibility extends to the platforms where so much of this activity now takes place.”
