Prince William has suffered his own private “turmoil” over Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. The Prince of Wales reportedly experienced a “wake-up call” in the past several months as he has had to navigate not only his wife’s illness but his father experiencing a similar health scare.

Prince William faced personal challenges after Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis

Kate Middleton underwent a planned abdominal surgery in January 2024. In March, she shared a video discussing her cancer diagnosis and recovery plans.

Around that same time, William’s father, King Charles, was also diagnosed with cancer. He, too, received treatment and has returned to some of his scheduled forward-facing duties.

William faced this private “turmoil” without the support of his brother, Prince Harry, from who he remains estranged. Therefore, the events were a “wake-up call,” British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard claims to Fox News Digital.

“I imagine Prince William has suffered his own private turmoil, having both his father and wife undergoing cancer treatment at the same time, and without the support from his brother, Prince Harry,” Chard shares.

“It must be a lonely time,” she continued. “I know he values every moment he spends with his wife as a doting husband and family man.”

Chard concludes, “Both the Prince and Princess of Wales have had time to reflect on life while the princess has been undergoing treatment. They have spent as much time together as possible and, I can imagine, are closer than ever. They have endured a surprising wake-up call and will want to seize each day and live their best lives ever.”

On June 15, Prince William will appear at the annual Trooping the Color. This military parade marks the reigning British monarch’s official birthday and is a highly anticipated royal family event.

According to Buckingham Palace, King Charles will also attend this year’s event. He will modify his role by riding in a horse-drawn carriage alongside Camilla, Queen Consort, instead of horseback.

William typically attends alongside Kate Middleton. The couple and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, participate in the parade and watch the military flyover from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Kensington Palace has not confirmed whether Kate Middleton will participate in the full-day event. However, she may wave to the crowds below from the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside other senior royals, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Kate Middleton stepped back from an important royal task ahead of Trooping the Color

In a post shared with X, the Irish Guards shared a letter Kate Middleton wrote regarding her absence at their review. She holds the title of Regimental Colonel of the troops.

She did not conduct her annual review this year as she continues to recover from cancer. In her place was Lieutenant General James Bucknall, former Allied Rapid Reaction Corps commander.

She wrote, “I wanted to write and let you know how proud I am of the entire regiment ahead of the Colonel’s Review and Trooping of the Color. I appreciate everyone trooping this year has been practicing for months and dedicating many hours to ensuring their uniforms and drill are immaculate.”

Kate continued, “Being your colonel remains a great honor, and I am very sorry that I’m unable to take the salute at this year’s Colonel’s Review. Please pass my apologies to the whole Regiment, however, I do hope that I am able to represent you all once again very soon. Please send my very best wishes and good luck to all involved.”

Trooping the Color takes place on June 15. It remains to be seen if Prince William and Kate Middleton will attend the event together.
