Prince William’s Doing Parenting ‘Right,’ According to Travis and Jason Kelce
Parenting praise for Prince William. Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce said the Prince of Wales is “doing it right” after meeting the British royal and his two oldest children, Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, 9, at Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour concert in London, England, on June 21, 2024. A “good parent move” made for an “electric” moment with the young royals, who were an “absolute delight.”
Travis and Jason appreciated being asked questions while meeting William, George, and Charlotte
On the June 26 episode of their New Heights podcast, retired NFL player Jason and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis, who has been dating Swift since 2023, discussed what happened when they went to London for the “Eras” tour.
Namely how they met William, George, and Charlotte backstage alongside the “Fortnight” singer. (Kate Middleton, who has a “few months” left of preventative chemotherapy treatment, is believed to have stayed home with their youngest child, 6-year-old Prince Louis.)
“Prince William was fantastic. But the highlight was Princess Charlotte. Prince George was great, too. She was so f***ing adorable,” Jason said. “Like, I cannot express how…I don’t know, maybe it’s because I have three girls now. She had [a] fire to her. She was asking questions […] that was the most electric part.”
For those who didn’t see the viral video clips and selfies—more on that ahead—making the rounds on social media, William took his two oldest kids to Swift’s concert at Wembley Stadium on his birthday. (He turned 42.)
Travis echoed his brother’s comments, telling listeners, “I love it when parents ask their kids to be present, [and] be vocal. It’s such a good parent move.”
“Just a good meet and a picture and to keep it moving? No, listen, let them have a moment. Let them feel comfortable and talking to people. There’s nothing worse than a f****** kid just walking in and just being…”
“Let’s not s*** on kids,” Jason replied, to which Travis said his criticism is directed at parents. “No, I’m s****ing on parents not encouraging their kids to do that,” he explained. “So, if anybody’s doing [it] right, Prince William is doing it right. So thank you, Your Royal Highness. It was awesome meeting you and Charlotte and George.”
The Kelce brothers kept it casual yet ‘polite’ with the royals backstage
Elsewhere on the podcast, Travis and Jason talked about not knowing what to expect when they meet George, Charlotte, and William as far as royal etiquette goes, such as curtsying and bowing.
“[I] wasn’t sure if I was supposed to bow to them, curtsy, or just be an American idiot and shake their hand [and say] ‘Sup dude,’” Travis said. “We wanted to be polite, especially on this side of the pond.”
Jason shared that at one point during the backstage meeting, they received a “warning because, honestly, we don’t know.”
“But they said that because we weren’t at, like, an official royal event, we didn’t need to bow or curtsy,” he continued. “If it would have been like an official meeting or royalty event, then it would have been that. But I did still address him as Your Royal Highness.”
“Dude, he was the coolest mother f*****,” Travis said of William. “He was so cool. I didn’t realize this because obviously we were backstage meeting him because he was there with little George and Charlotte and they were an absolute delight to meet.”
The royals took selfies with Taylor Swift
Although the meet and greet was reportedly quick, the group did make time to snap a few photos. Kensington Palace posted a photo of William, George, and Charlotte smiling alongside Swift for a selfie.
“Thank you @taylorswift for a great evening! #LondonTSTheErastour,” the caption on the Instagram post read.
Meanwhile, the Grammy winner shared an image on her own Instagram. It showed her and Travis standing next to William, Charlotte, and George. “Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start,” Swift wrote in the caption.
Another royal meeting could be ahead as Swift is set to return to London for five nights at Wembley Stadium in August.
