Prince William’s Selfie With Taylor Swift Is a Slap in the Face for Meghan Markle
Prince William certainly won some brownie points with Taylor Swift fans when he took his two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, to one of Swift’s concerts during her London leg of The Eras Tour. The royal danced the night away with his cousins, too, but it’s what happened afterward that really captured fans’ hearts: A selfie with Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
William almost seemed to gain a popularity boost from the move, but surprisingly, it sends a clear and unfriendly message to the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, across the pond.
Prince William’s selfie sends a disappointing message to Meghan Markle
After the concert, William took a selfie with Swift that featured his two children, George and Charlotte, as well as Swift and Kelce. But it sent a powerful message to Meghan, who suffered a tough rejection from Swift less than two years earlier. When Meghan was launching her Archetypes podcast, she allegedly wrote a handwritten note to Swift asking her to appear on the podcast to discuss the stereotypes women face every day. However, Swift rejected the request, opting not to appear on the show. Meghan’s podcast was eventually scrapped for poor performance, which was already a tough break for the duchess.
But Swift posting an Instagram photo with William, who some might consider Meghan’s archenemy, is nothing short of a slap in the face for the duchess. Meghan and Harry attended Swift’s concert and did not get a selfie with the queen of pop, but that’s not even the biggest deal; it’s the fact that Swift rejected an opportunity to sit down with Meghan but took the chance to spend time with William — and even shared it to social media, which is a huge statement about her respect for the future king.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not receive special treatment at Taylor Swift’s concert
In the Sussexes’ defense, they probably weren’t seeking any kind of special treatment from Swift. Plus, they attended the singer’s Los Angeles show, which saw a slew of other celebrities also not receive any kind of preferential treatment.
Still, it had to sting a little. Receiving a rejection from Swift likely stung on its own, but to see the pop singer so elated to meet William at her concert probably only rubbed salt in the wound. It seems Harry and Meghan have done everything they can to bring the royal family down, but it also seems that all it took was one quick selfie with the most famous singer in the world to completely fix William’s reputation. Plus, Kelce had nothing but good things to say about William after their interaction, which certainly doesn’t help Meghan and Harry’s case.
