Princess Diana Bribed Prince William To Sit Still For Haircuts Claims Her Hairdresser
Princess Diana‘s hairdresser claims Prince William benefitted from his mother’s glam team. The late Princess of Wales’ longtime hairdresser, Richard Dalton, spilled the beans of how she bribed William to sit still for haircuts by allowing him to indulge in this one favorite pastime.
This is the real reason Prince William never fought Princess Diana on getting a haircut
Not unlike other children his age, Prince William wasn’t a fan of sitting still for a haircut. However, Princess Diana devised a plan ensuring William received all the benefits of her glam team with little fuss.
Richard Dalton spoke at People Magazine‘s Fotografiska event. There, he revealed why he had little difficulty getting the future king of the United Kingdom to sit still for a trim.
The stylist revealed William would get “extra television” while Dalton worked on his locks. This was why the young prince wouldn’t make a fuss.
Dalton also revealed that as Diana’s stylist for over a decade, he was there to give William and Prince Harry their first haircuts. He added Diana trusted him “very much so. She trusted me enough to go up to the nursery room.”
Princess Diana’s hairstylist revealed their close bond
Princess Diana first went to Richard Dalton for hairdressing at 17. He worked at Fenwick of Bond Street’s in-store salon, and cut the hair of Diana’s two sisters, Sarah and Jane.
Ironically, Dalton didn’t do Diana’s hair on her 1981 wedding day to Prince Charles. His fellow stylist, Kevin Shanley, who developed Diana’s iconic feathered hairstyle, took that honor.
“It was every day, sometimes twice a day, for tiaras,” said Dalton of his and Diana’s daily routine. “I would see her every morning, and obviously, she had an event every day [and would] come back at 5 o’clock to do tiaras.”
Dalton revealed in a separate interview for Town & Country that when Diana decided to change her hairstyle, perhaps cut it shorter, the change was gradual as not to alert the press. “Whatever I did to her hair became front page news,” he revealed.
“We had to be very careful. We had to do it one-fourth of an inch at a time over several weeks,” he said before the new look was unveiled.
Princess Diana’s glam style was inspired by the 1980s nighttime soap opera ‘Dynasty’
One of Princess Diana’s great passions was watching the American soap opera Dynasty. She loved the nighttime serial’s fashion, flair, and drama, which aired on ABC from 1981-1989.
Dalton revealed that Diana was very intrigued by the fashion of the serial. She rarely missed an episode.
“Fashion, jewelry, she used to pretend she was in Dynasty,” Dalton revealed. “She [had] gone to see Back to the Future, [so we] tied the pearls in a knot,” he said of the much-talked-about way the royal wore her necklace at the film’s London premiere in 1985.
UPI reported in a 1985 archives story that Diana wasn’t the only one hooked on the nighttime soap opera. Then-husband Prince Charles appeared to watch it with her. “My wife has got me into watching Dallas and Dynasty,” Charles once revealed.
Richard Dalton is the author of a book titled It’s All About the Hair — My Decade with Diana.
