Princess Diana Remains the Royal Family’s Top Style Influencer in 2021 and Fans Will Not Believe Who Is No 4
Princess Diana tragically passed away almost a quarter-century ago, but she’s still very popular with royal fans. In fact, she’s still the royal family’s top style influencer in 2021, according to a new study.
Number two and three on the list won’t come as a surprise. But fans won’t believe who is number four.
Princess Diana is still the ‘Queen of Trends’
A new study from global fashion brand Pretty Little Thing has revealed that Princess Diana’s influence remains strong nearly 24 years after her death. The data shows that the late Princess of Wales is still the biggest Royal style inspiration in the UK.
The study — which analyzed search volumes in the UK and United States — showed more than 200,000 searches this year for styles and outfits inspired by Princess Diana. Even though her style is from the 1980s and 1990s, this new study proves that the People’s Princess was way ahead of her time when it came to fashion.
Princess Diana’s iconic outfits are still trending
Many of the fashion trends from Diana’s heyday have made a comeback and are trending today. One of the most notable examples is the return of blazers, which photos show Diana absolutely loved.
Currently, blazers and blazer dresses are one of the biggest trends in fashion. In the US and UK, blazers have seen a 750 percent spike in demand in just the past month. It appears that Diana’s fashion influence won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
Fans won’t believe who is number 4 on the royal style influencer list
Just behind Diana on the royal style influencer list is Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. She’s followed at number three by Kate, Duchess of Cambridge. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, since both ladies are all over UK media.
The “Kate Middleton Effect” and “Meghan Effect” have been quite powerful in the fashion world in recent years. Anytime either lady wears an outfit, it quickly sells out in stores.
The royal at number four, however, is quite the shock. According to the study, Princess Anne is the number four fashion influencer in the royal family. She was followed by Camilla Parker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall, at number five.
Who will be the next big royal style inspiration?
The fashion study also found out who the next big royal style inspiration will be based on percentage increase in searches. The research showed that Sophie, Countess of Wessex is on her way to being the family’s top fashion influencer, with a 700 percent increase.
Just behind her at number two was, once again, Princess Anne. There’s been a six hundred percent increase in searches for Princess Anne’s fashion in 2021. Camilla Parker Bowles, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Diana rounded out the top five. Meghan and Kate were at the bottom of this list (number 10 and 11), despite both being current fashion influencers.
Princess Diana’s wedding dress is currently on display at Kensington Palace
Princess Diana’s fashion is front and center in a new royal style exhibition at Kensington Palace. For the first time in 25 years, her iconic wedding dress is on display after Prince William and Prince Harry gave their permission for it to be part of “Royal Style in the Making.”
Diana’s wedding dress was made by David and Elizabeth Emanuel and features ivory silk, pure taffeta, 10,000 pearls, and a 25-foot train.
The exhibition opened in early June, and will run through January 2022. Also part of the display is Diana’s going away outfit after her wedding.
“While one of the highlights will undoubtedly be Diana, Princess of Wales’s show-stopping Emanuel-designed wedding dress — which goes on show at the palace for the first time in 25 years — we’ve got some real surprises up our sleeve for fashion fans,” Matthew Storey, exhibition curator at Historic Royal Palaces, promised.
