Princess Diana Still Loved Prince Charles Long After They Divorced, Her Friend Claims
We all know the story. Following their fairytale wedding in 1981, Prince Charles and Princess Diana‘s relationship went south. Years later, the public learned just how bad things were when they each spoke out about what occurred behind palace walls and owned up to their affairs.
In 1996, the future king and his first wife divorced. But the late princess’ friend and others have claimed that Diana still loved Charles until her untimely death. Here’s more on that, plus the surprising thing the Prince and Princess of Wales did together the day they ended their marriage.
Princess Diana never wanted to divorce Prince Charles
Following Diana’s bombshell Panorama interview, Queen Elizabeth II urged her son and daughter-in-law to divorce. However, those in Princess Diana’s inner circle claimed that she never wanted that.
“Given the choice, she would have stayed and tried to make a happy marriage,” Diana’s personal trainer and confidant Jenni Rivett told Yahoo’s The Royal Box. “She loved Charles. She wasn’t the one who wanted to separate or divorce. She was sad about it. She wanted to be a loving wife.”
Many have speculated that another reason Diana may not have wanted to divorce Charles was because she didn’t want her children to go through that. Diana had to witness her own parents’ bitter divorce when she was a child and didn’t want William and Harry to have to deal with the same thing.
Diana’s friend claims she loved Charles ’till her dying day’
Another woman close to the princess agreed that she wasn’t the one who wanted to end things and still loved her husband.
“I think she loved Charles till her dying day,” Diana’s friend and astrologer Debbie Frank told the Daily Mail. “I’m not saying she longed for him. She didn’t. But there was still that wound there like there was with her mother.
“It was probably more about the mother than Charles actually,” Frank opined, adding, “When he triggered that feeling of abandonment in her, she became like a five-year-old again.”
What the prince and princess did together the day they got divorced
The day Diana and Charles officially ended their marriage, they reportedly did something together that no one expected given how tumultuous their separation had been.
Royalty Magazine editor Ingrid Seward said they wept together after signing the divorce papers.
“Diana did tell me something quite interesting,” Seward revealed in the documentary The Royal Family at War. “She said that on the day of the divorce, she and Charles sat down together on the sofa and they both cried. It was this crazy separation but by the time the divorce was finalized, they were on much better terms.”
