Princess Diana Was ‘Upset’ With How Some Royals Treated Prince Harry As a Child and Had ‘Concerns’ About Him Growing Up, Insider Says

Princess Diana always wanted the best for her kids. And with having two boys, she supposedly worried about Prince Harry growing up, according to one person who spoke to the late princess.

Princess Diana always had her children’s best interests at heart. It was clear that her kids were the most important part of her life, and to this day, Prince Harry and Prince William have never forgotten the love they have for their mother.

But with William the heir to the throne, one royal insider claims Diana once revealed that she had “concerns” about Harry growing up due, in part, to some favoritism shown to William.

Princess Diana reportedly had ‘concerns’ about Prince Harry

It’s clear in photographs and video footage that Diana always put her kids first and wanted them to be happy. And it was clear from the start that William would be the heir to the throne, and rumors have swirled that King Charles once referred to his kids as “an heir and a spare,” hence the name of Harry’s best-selling memoir.

But Diana reportedly worried about Harry growing up because there was sometimes favoritism shown to William by other members of the royal family. At least, that’s what royal expert Ingrid Seward claims Diana once said.

“We talked about it quite a lot,” Seward said of Diana’s worry for Harry, according to Express. “She said, ‘I worry for Harry and I’m really, really careful that he’s not treated differently than William.’”

Seward also spoke of an instance where the Queen Mother (Harry’s great grandmother) showed favoritism toward William. “When they used to go and see the Queen Mother, she would pat the chair and say ‘come and sit here William’ and completely ignore Harry, and that really upset Diana.”

“I think she [Diana] worried much more for Harry because she just wasn’t sure which way he was going to go,” Seward continued.

Princess Diana would likely be proud of Prince Harry today

Maybe Diana always worried about Harry, but she would likely be happy that he took the path he did. Though some might not agree with Harry’s decision to leave the family, it seemed he wanted nothing more than to be out of the royal bubble. So, he did what he felt he had to do, and his wife, Meghan Markle, said during the couple’s May 2024 Nigeria trip that she and Harry were “really happy.”

These days, Harry’s relationship with William remains strained, but that doesn’t mean it can’t someday change. The two brothers did get together in 2021 to unveil a statue in honor of their mother despite their ongoing feud, so it seems that when it truly matters, they can put their differences aside.
