Princess Diana’s Bodyguard Gives Scathing Take on Prince Harry and Meghan’s Relationship: ‘Something’s Not Quite Right’
Prince Harry has made several comments over the years about how he believes his wife, Meghan Markle, is just like his mother, Princess Diana. However, because the Duchess of Sussex is so unpopular in the U.K. and the prince’s late mom is a beloved figure, Harry’s comparisons have not been well received by many royal watchers.
What Prince Harry said has also caused some people who used to work on Diana’s staff to speak out about what they think of Meghan and her marriage to the prince. Here’s more on that and how the late princess‘s bodyguard responded when asked if he thought the Duke of Sussex had been “brainwashed” by the Suits star.
Diana’s ex-bodyguard insists something’s off about Harry and Meghan’s relationship
One of those people who worked with the princess and is voicing concerns over her youngest son’s marriage to Meghan is Ken Wharfe. He was Princess Diana’s bodyguard from 1988 to 1993 and recently talked to GB News about his observation that “something isn’t right” in the Sussexes’ relationship.
When discussing if he thinks Harry is totally brainwashed, Wharfe opined: “Well, I think that when you look at the wedding and the public events that followed — an event in Nottingham and that event in London — she [Meghan] is the consummate actress, the consummate performer. You could see the look in Harry’s eyes saying, ‘Hey, look what I’ve got, it’s amazing’, but where did it all fall apart?
“Whether he is completely under her control, some people say that he is. I can’t say that in all honesty. It seems to me that something is not quite right in that relationship.”
When asked if he believes Harry is happy, Wharfe replied: “I don’t think he is. If you look at him up until the point of his marriage, Harry was the joker. The most popular member of the royal family. Even more popular at that time than the late Her Majesty [Queen Elizabeth II]. Then suddenly, his popularity and [Meghan’s] popularity plummeted to levels I don’t think anyone imagined.”
Other Princess Diana staffers voiced concerns about the Sussexes’ marriage as well
Wharfe isn’t the only person who worked with Diana and has spoken out about Harry’s relationship with Meghan.
Paul Burrell served as Queen Elizabeth II‘s personal footman and in 1987, was moved to the household of then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana. When they separated, Burrell stayed on the staff as Diana’s butler and looked after her and her sons until the princess’s tragic death.
He told OK! magazine that initially he was happy for the duke and duchess when they got together but feels differently now, saying: “I thought that Meghan was this breath of fresh air who would modernize the royal family and bring all the vital elements that were missing, but what kind of love is this? I think Harry is totally besotted with her. He’s given everything up.
“I think people have missed the fact he married a 36-year-old woman. That is very significant because his mother was 36 when she died. I think he was looking for someone mature to guide him.”
