Is Princess Eugenie’s Son August Using Archie’s Nursery at Frogmore Cottage?
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have moved back into Frogmore Cottage, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex’s former home. The princess and her husband stayed at Eugenie’s family home before their son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, was born on Feb. 9.
Frogmore Cottage was the home of Meghan and Harry’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, who lived before their move to California. Given that, is baby August using Archie’s former nursery at Frogmore Cottage?
Does Princess Eugenie have a baby?
Eugenie and Brooksbank shared their exciting baby news on Feb. 9. They debuted their little one on Instagram, and his full name, on Feb. 20. As Eugenie wrote:
We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank. Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you. Thank you to the wonderful essential workers including our midwife who came to discharge our boy.
The couple had moved into Frogmore Cottage in Windsor in November 2020, but they stayed at the Royal Lodge, Eugenie’s childhood home, for the holidays and to quarantine with Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew before giving birth.
Who actually owns Frogmore Cottage?
Harry and Meghan moved into Frogmore Cottage just before Archie was born in May 2018. The couple had five staff quarters renovated into one building and had the entire interior redecorating.
The renovation cost £2.4 million (about $3.3 million) of taxpayer money, but the Duke and Duchess paid back the cost of the renovations after stepping down as senior royals in 2020. They are now financially independent (and could become billionaires because of it).
Frogmore Cottage belongs to the Crown Estate, which means it is in the charge of the current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. The Estate is passed down from monarch to monarch.
The Royal Lodge isn’t far from Frogmore Cottage. Windsor Castle, where the Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh live, is just a 5-minute walk away from the house.
Does August use Archie’s nursery?
While Harry, Meghan, and Archie live in Montecito, California, Frogmore is still their primary U.K. residence.
“Frogmore Cottage continues to be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s residence in the U.K.,” a source told People in November. “And they are delighted to be able to open up their home to Princess Eugenie and Jack as they start their own family.”
The Sussex royals’ renovations included a nursery for Archie. According to Hello!, Meghan reportedly hired Soho House designer Vicky Charles to redecorate the home. The decorations reportedly included the use of chemical-free paint, so as not to introduce the baby to harsh chemicals, and. a Babyletto crib that they likely brought with them to California.
Given that Meghan and Harry had a nursery created in the home, it is believed that Eugenie and Jack are using the same room for August.
Meghan and Eugenie have become friends since the former Suits star joined the royal family. The two reportedly kept in touch during their pregnancies (Meghan and Harry are expecting their second child).
“They would have known about each other’s due dates,” a family friend told People. “These times tend to bring families together. What is lovely is Eugenie having her baby as Harry and Meghan are having theirs. They are very close. And they are all deciding to go their own route.”
