Princess Eugenie Accidentally Helped Leak Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Relationship To the Press, Source Says
Though royal life might seem like glitz and glamour from the outside looking in, over the years, various members of the British royal family have proven that it’s the exact opposite. From Princess Diana to Sarah, Duchess of York and now Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, countless people have struggled to adhere to royal life.
While many of the royals are trustworthy, The Firm itself and certainly those working around the royal family have been known to leak information to the press. This is exactly what happened when Prince Harry and Meghan’s relationship went public before they were ready to announce it.
In fact, the leak came from the household of one of the royal family members closest to the Sussexes.
Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie have always been really close
Though Prince Harry was close to his brother, Prince William growing up, he was always exceptionally close to his cousin, Princess Eugenie. “Eugenie had always been more than just a cousin to Harry,” Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie’s Finding Freedom reveals. “They were also the closest of friends.”
As the second siblings in their respective households, and because they are fairly close in age, the prince and princess have always shared a tight bond. “Out of all the queen’s grandchildren, Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry have one of the most natural connections. Like Harry, Eugenie is loyal, honest and great fun,” the book explains.
In fact, Princess Eugenie knew about the prince’s future wife before anyone else in the royal family.

After Prince Harry met Meghan in the summer of 2016, later convincing her to join him in Botswana for their third date, he confided in his cousin that he’d met someone special. In fact, Princess Eugenie and her now-husband, Jack Brooksbank, double-dated with the Sussexes in Toronto early on in their relationship. Finding Freedom explains,
Harry had always confided in his cousin when it came to the women in his life. Not only did he trust her implicitly, but friends say that she gives great advice and has always been ‘beyond wise’ for her year. She was nothing but encouraging about his new relationship. In fact, Eugenie, who’d long wanted to see her cousin settle down and be happy, told friends she loved Meghan and that she was ‘just the tonic’ for him.
Princess Eugenie’s staff member leaked Meghan and Prince Harry’s relationship to the press
Since the princess was so close to the Sussexes, she was horrified when a member of her staff leaked their relationship to the press.
Scoobie and Durand explained that Meghan and Prince Harry were at a Halloween party in Toronto with Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank when the prince received a call that the relationship had leaked.
Reportedly, it was one of Princess Eugenie and her father Prince Andrew’s members of staff who leaked the info. Thankfully, the Sussexes didn’t hold it against Eugenie just as she did not hold it against them when their baby news was shared just before her Oct. 2018 wedding.
