Queen Gave BTS a Shoutout About the New ‘Butter’ Music Video Teaser
On May 18, BTS released a teaser for the music video of their new English-language single “Butter.” The music video teaser gave fans an inkling about what the song will sound like, and the beat in the teaser sounds similar to Queen’s song “Another One Bites the Dust.” After the teaser was released, Queen approved of BTS’ music video teaser on Twitter.
BTS released a music video teaser for ‘Butter’
The music video teaser for “Butter” was uploaded to the HYBE Labels YouTube channel on May 18 at 11 a.m. EDT. Big Hit Music also shared the teaser on social media.
The music video teaser for “Butter” is 23 seconds long and opens with Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook standing side by side. The video is in black and white, and the BTS members are all wearing fashionable suits. Suga and V both wear sunglasses in the video.
A few seconds into the teaser, a beat resembling “Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen begins to play. The BTS members move their heads to the beat in perfect synchronization.
Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook then cover their mouths in shock. The teaser changes to color and a stack of pancakes with syrup and butter is revealed. At the end of the teaser, the lyrics, “Get it, let it roll” can be heard.
Queen tweeted about BTS’ new teaser for ‘Butter’
After the teaser for the “Butter” music video was shared online, the hashtag #ButterVideoTeaser trended on Twitter. Fans of BTS were quick to pick up on the similarities of the beat in the teaser compared to “Another One Bites the Dust.”
“… reminds me of another one bites the dust, but I won’t trust it 100% cuz BTS teasers tend to be very misleading,” one Reddit user wrote.
“The beat sounds like Another One Bites The Dust and I DIG it. It’s so unexpected, and I don’t 100% trust it (as in, there could be more on top of it), but it sounds PERFECT for a hot summer…,” a fan wrote on Reddit.
Of course, BTS fans were not the only ones who picked up on a possible homage to Queen. Shortly after the music video teaser was released, the official Twitter account for Queen shared the video and gave BTS a shoutout.

BTS will release ‘Butter’ on May 21
So far, fans have been given hints about the song’s sound and aesthetics with concept clips, teaser photos, and the music video teaser for “Butter.”
According to the press release about the song, “‘Butter’ is a dance pop track brimming with the smooth yet charismatic charm of BTS. This song is the second English single following ‘Dynamite’ released in August last year.”
BTS will release “Butter” and its music video on May 21 at midnight EDT and 1 p.m. KST. The band will perform the song for the first time at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on May 23.
