Queen Camilla (formerly Camilla Parker Bowles) had been dealing with a chest infection for weeks which caused her to skip out on a few royal events.

A Palace source told The Daily Beast: “(Camilla) has chosen to clarify that the specific viral chest infection she had was a form of pneumonia. She has recovered well but continues to experience episodic symptoms of post-viral fatigue.”

The queen did skip some of the outdoor events during the Qatari state visit to avoid standing in chilly temperatures for an extended period of time. However, she joined King Charles and their guests for a lunch at the Palace and the state banquet in the evening.

Camilla also joined her husband to bid a formal farewell to Their Highnesses of Qatar at Buckingham Palace and what she wore has people talking. Here’s more on that and the update the queen just gave regarding her health.

To see His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bin Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani off, Camilla donned a plum-colored cape dress and a striking pearl chocker featuring a large amethyst stone in the center.

Fine jewelry experts from the U.K. retailer Steven Stone took an in-depth look at the exquisite piece and shared the details surrounding its design and significance as to why the royal chose to wear it now.

Maxwell Stone commented: “Queen Camilla’s necklace is a stunning three-stranded pearl choker, featuring a geometric clasp adorned with diamonds that encircle a single amethyst at its center.

“The sentimental piece holds great significance, as Queen Camilla wore it to her first public engagement in 2002, at the memorial service for the late Princess Margaret. It also graced her neck on the momentous evening in 2005 when she and King Charles officially announced their engagement.”

Stone added: “Amethyst is known for its associations with wellness and health, making it a particularly fitting choice for Queen Camilla, who continues to carry out her royal duties while recovering from pneumonia. The stone’s healing properties add an extra layer of meaning to the necklace, symbolizing strength and resilience during this challenging time. Upon closer inspection, and given its place in Her Majesty’s private jewelry collection, I’d estimate the necklace to be worth around $50,000.”

On Dec. 5, Queen Camilla attended an engagement close to her Clarence House home where she met with survivors of domestic violence and supporters of Women’s Aid for a reception to mark the charity’s 50th anniversary.

The monarch’s wife offered an update on her health when she was asked how she’s been feeling.

Domestic abuse survivor Alice Liveing, who is now a Women’s Aid ambassador, told Express: “I asked how she was feeling. She said she was feeling pretty tired but was trying to juggle some bits.”

During the reception, the queen delivered some remarks about the progress the charity has made over the last five decades saying: “If you think what’s happening now compared to what was happening 50 years ago, you must all be incredibly proud of yourselves. I think so many people hadn’t realized what domestic abuse was, especially then. It’s terrible that after 50 years, it still hasn’t been eradicated, but we are making progress.”
